In a news coming straight from the world of cricket & Bollywood, Sourav Ganguly’s biopic was confirmed today. The former Indian cricket team captain claimed to be ‘thrilled’ to be the part of the project. Ganguly himself has confirmed that Luv Films will be producing his biopic. For the unversed, Luv Films is headed by produce-director Luv Ranjan that has given a slew of hits in the past.
Sourav Ganguly has joined the elite list of Indian cricket team captains to have had a biopic made for him. This list includes Mohammad Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Details
In his almost 2 decades worth of service to Indian cricket, Sourav Ganguly has had the most eventful run. He’s credited to have brought the culture of a more aggressive Indian side.
He’s also often unofficially credited to have replaced certain players with those that helped the team in the long run. Not to mention, his feud with former Indian cricket team coach Gregg Chappel is known to most Indian cricket team fans.
These are just the cliff notes of an illustrious career of Sourav Ganguly, which absolutely becomes the bedrock of a classic Bollywood masala film.

The Facts of the Matter
On Thursday, the Bengal tiger took to Twitter and formally announced a biopic that is slated to be produced by Luv Productions. “Cricket has been my life, it gave confidence and ability to walk forward with my head held high, a journey to be cherished. Earlier, Sourav had also spoken about the project with News 18 Bangla, confirming that the movie will indeed be in biopic. He further revealed that for the time being, it wouldn’t be possible for him to reveal the director of the film. “It will take some more time for everything to be finalised,” he had added.
Why a Ganguly Biopic Just Makes Sense
As mentioned earlier, Sourav’s life-story pretty much reads like the script of a popular Bollywood film itself. At the heights of his career, he was lauded for leading an Indian team that won the NatWest Trophy. And when the lows came, he was scrutinized by the media and fans for his public-spat with coach Greg Chappell.

His Stint as the Indian Skipper
His stint as the Indian cricket team captain did nothing short of revolutionizing the Indian dressing room. No longer did Indian team only rely on experienced-yet aging players. Ganguly took the initiative of bringing about young blood in the team by plucking the fresh fruits from under-19 scene.
Changing How Other Teams Looked India As
He also brought about an all-new way overseas teams used to look Indian team as. No longer did he sit back and take all the sledging from Australians and English players. He was a gentleman when treated like one, and a dada, when he was forced to.

Making Steve Waugh Wait, Donning Multiple Caps
Fans of the sport would remember how Ganguly used to make Australian captain Steve Waugh wait during toss. This led to Waugh being impatient, and India having a slight psychological edge.
After bidding the field his final goodbye, he donned the cap of an efficient cricket administrator. He also commentated, mentored an IPL franchise, and played his part as a veteran.
We hope that his reel-life is as colourful and exciting as his real one.
