A South Korean YouTuber was recently caught on video being sexually harassed on the streets of Mumbai, during a live stream. So far, two people have been arrested in the matter, after the video of the harassment went viral and sparked outrage amongst many. The incident occurred in Mumbai’s Khar (west) suburb, and occurred at a public place earlier on Tuesday night.

In the video of the incident gone viral, the South Korean woman can be seen taking a video using a selfie stick. Suddenly, a man appears and asks the woman her age, and then forcibly taking her to his scooter. The man in the video can also be making racist comments and saying, “Gaadi pe betchi, jalchi, come fast. One time.”

When the South Korean national refuses to sit on his vehicle and tries to leave, the man puts his hand around her neck and tries to kiss her. Alarmed and concerned about her safety, the woman can be seen saying, “It’s time to go back home”.

This doesn’t stop the man, who with another man on the two-wheeler stops the YouTuber, and insisting her to go on a ride with them. They also offer to take her to the nearest railway station, which she refuses.

Two men, Mobeen Chand Mohammed Shaikh and Mohammed Naqeeb Sadrealam Ansari were arrested for the incident.

The Facts of the Matter

While India can be a land of culture and tradition to tourists across the world, it is also a country where tourists, especially women, face harassment, abuse, and scamming. In one such incident which occurred recently in Mumbai, a South Korean YouTuber was filmed being sexually harassed by two men in Mumbai’s Khar, following which, the accused were arrested.

The incident occurred earlier on Tuesday when the YouTuber was out on the streets of Khar, making a video and livestreaming the evening.

What Does the Video Show?

The video of the incident shows the South Korean national taking a video using a selfie stick. A man enters the frame, and asks the woman her hand. Before the woman could leave the scene, he holds her hand and drags her towards his two-wheeler.

Visibly uncomfortable, the foreigner tries to leave the scene. However, the accused makes fun of her in a racist way and asks her to sit on his vehicle. He also puts his hand around her neck and tries kissing her.

Shocked by the harassment, the woman tries to walk away and says, “It’s time to go back home”.

Streamer Gives Account of Harassment

Following the incident, the streamer, Mhyochi took to Twitter and gave an account of the incident. “Last night on stream, there was a guy who harassed me. I tried my best not to escalate the situation and leave because he was with his friend. And some people said that it was initiated by me being too friendly and engaging the conversation. Makes me think again about streaming.”

Complaint Filed, Accused Arrested

After the video of the incident sparked outrage amongst netizens, the Mumbai police took cognizance of the incident. They reached out to the streamer, who said that she wouldn’t be coming to the police station to file a complaint. However, as the matter was serious, a FIR was registered on the complaint of another police staffer.

Based on the FIR, the cops were able to nab down the two alleged accused in the matter, identified as Mobeen Chand Mohammed Shaikh and Mohammed Naqeeb Sadrealam Ansar. They have been booked under multiple sections of IPC, including Section 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage modesty of a woman).
