Low-cost airline SpiceJet is again in trouble, this time, several passengers were forced to walk on the airport tarmac after 45-minute wait for the bus. It should be noted that passengers are prohibited to walk on the airport’s tarmac in Delhi’s airport due to security risk. The airport allows passengers to be transported to the terminal by buses which are driven on demarcated path.

The drama ensued when the airline’s Hyderabad to Delhi flight, which was carrying 186 passengers on board, landed at the Delhi airport sometime around 11.24 pm on Saturday. While one passenger bus immediately took a batch of passengers to T3, several passengers remained stranded on the airport tarmac.

According to several accounts shared by the passengers, they had to wait for the next 45 minutes for the buses to come and pick them up. However, when the bus didn’t arrive, they started walking towards the terminal, which is about 1.5 km away from the tarmac.

Meanwhile, SpiceJet has rejected the claims made by the passengers.

“The information that passengers of SpiceJet flight Hyderabad-Delhi on 6th August were forced to walk towards the terminal on foot is wrong and is denied. There was a brief delay in the arrival of coaches to ferry the passengers from the tarmac to the terminal building,” statement read.

The Facts of the Matter

SpiceJet, which was earlier looked as one of the strongest competitors to IndiGo airlines, can’t seem to catch break. After multiple glitches and mishaps, the low-cost airline was ordered by DCGA to operate at 50% capacity for the next eight weeks.

SpiceJet at it Again

The period of eight weeks has not even ended yet and SpiceJet is again in controversy. This time, passengers of SpiceJet alleged that they had to walk on the Delhi airport’s tarmac after waiting for 45 minutes for the SpiceJet bus that would’ve taken them to Terminal 3.

The chaos ensued when the Hyderabad-Delhi flight landed earlier on Saturday at the airport sometime around 11.24 pm. The SpiceJet plane was carrying 184 passengers when it landed at the tarmac of the Delhi airport.

Chaos Ensues on Delhi Airport Tarmac

Initially, the first bus of the airline arrived, picked up the first batch of the passengers and took them to Terminal 3. However, the remaining passengers allegedly had to wait for 45 minutes on the tarmac. Frustrated with the wait, the passengers started walking towards the terminal, which is 1.5 km away from the tarmac.

It should be noted that walking on airport tarmacs is prohibited due to security reasons. Passengers are taken to and from airplane by buses operated by the airline.

SpiceJet Refuses Responsibility

Meanwhile, SpiceJet has denied all allegations, and claimed that the hindrance was caused due to a “brief delay”.

“The information that passengers of SpiceJet flight Hyderabad-Delhi on 6th August were forced to walk towards the terminal on foot is wrong and is denied. There was a brief delay in the arrival of coaches to ferry the passengers from the tarmac to the terminal building,” the statement read.

“Despite repeated requests from our staff, a few passengers started walking towards the terminal. They had barely walked a few metres when the coaches arrived. All passengers, including those who had started walking, travelled on the coaches to the terminal building,” the airline further stated.
