In the recent Srinagar terror attacks, militants opened fire in a government school where 2 teachers died. There have been 7 deaths in 5 days in the J&K where militants have been on a spree of targeted killings. Reportedly, the school had no students as the classes have been online. However, the militants shot the principal of the school and one teacher at a close range.
The recent attack comes within 48 hours of another attack by militants where 3 persons lost their lives. So far, no militant outfit has taken responsibility for the attack. A recent NDTV report has cited J&K police claiming the attacks today were carried out by the “The Resistance Front”

The peaceful and scenic J&K valley has been rocked by multiple terror attacks this year. Earlier this year, the J&K Airport came under attack as 2 drones dropped explosives. The drone attack didn’t cause casualty, but since then drone chatter has been recorded at a much higher rate in J&K.
Further, in August, a BJP functionary’s house was attacked by a grenade where a 2-year-old nephew of the functionary was killed. Before these attacks, a J&K Special Police Officer was attacked by JeM militants which resulted in the deaths of 3 persons.
Recently, there’s been an uptick in terrorist attacks in Srinagar.
The Facts of the Matter
2 education professionals – a principal and a teacher were gunned down by militants in J&K’s Srinagar on October 7. These killings have been the latest in a slew of targeted attacks in J&K capital. On Thursday, militants broke into a government school in the Eidgah area of the Srinagar and opened fire. The attack resulted in the death of the teacher and the school’s principal. Fortunately, students were not taking classes as their classes have been online.

Victims Identified, Belonged to Hindu & Sikh Communities
The victims of the recent attack have been identified as Supinder Kour and Deepak Chand. According to reports, the victims belonged from the Kashmir’s Sikh and Hindu communities. This is not the first attack on Hindu on Kashmir as earlier this week, militants gunned down 3 Hindus of different strata in Sri Nagar. Due to this, the killings are being categorized as targeted ones.
Militants Asked for ID Cards, Fired at Hindu and Sikh Teachers
A Reuters report quoted a school teacher giving the horrific account on the Thursday attack. “The pistol-wielding men came into the school this morning and asked for the identity cards of the teachers and later fired at two teachers, one each from the minority Sikh and Hindu community”, the teacher said, as quoted by reutters.
Hunt for Perpetrators Intensifies, The Resistance Front Likely Suspects
After the attack, the police cordoned off the area and a large-scale hunt for the assailants has intensified. Although no terror outfit has claimed the responsibility for the killings, the J&K police believes that the attack The Resistance Front (TRF) is responsible for them.
For the uninitiated, TRF is a militant outfit affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
J&K Governor Condoles Death
After the attacks, J&K Governor Manoj Sinha took to Twitter and condemned the deaths of the two teachers. “I strongly condemn the barbaric killing of two of our teachers, Supinder Kour and Deepak Chand by terrorists. A befitting reply will be given to the perpetrators of the heinous terror attacks on innocent people,” Mr. Sinha tweeted.
Earlier this week, 3 persons were gunned down on the same day, increasing the terror in the region. On October 6, 3 persons were the victims of targeted attacks. The victims were Makhan Lal Bindroo, a prominent business owner, Virendar Paswan, a street vendor from Bihar, and Mohammad Shafi Lone.
On Saturday, October 2, militants gunned down Majid Ahmad Gojri and Mohammad Shafi Dar, both civilians in Srinagar.
