In a shocking incident, a stolen petrol tanker overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh, and scores of locals were seen on video risking their lives to collect the loot. The incident occurred earlier on Friday night in Aligarh’s Mandi Road when a local thief stole a petrol tanker carrying over 24,000 liters of highly-inflammable petrol. Thankfully, no mishap was reported in the aftermath of the incident.

Earlier on Friday evening, a local thief stole a petrol carrying thousands of liters of petrol. However, the thief lost control over the tanker after the tanker’s real driver and cleaner tried to chase and nab him. What ensued next is as surprising as it is horrifying.

The out-of-control speeding tanker overturned, and spilled copious amounts of highly inflammable petrol on the road. Soon, the news of an overturned petrol tanker spread like wildfire. Locals later on Monday morning rushed to the scene and despite the risk of inflammable liquid spread all around them, they simply picked up the pace of the loot.

Scores of people were caught on cam collecting the fuel in containers that ranged from huge cans and buckets, to even polythene bags.

Earlier in May this year, a similar incident was reported from Bihar where a lorry carrying fishes overturned, prompting scores of locals to rush and collect as many fishes as they could.

The Facts of the Matter

With ever-increasing price of fuel in India, petrol and diesel continues to be a coveted commodity for majority of Indians. In such a situation, what happens when one is told that they can collect as much of free petrol as they can?

The answer to the above-question emerged recently when a petrol carrying tanker overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh, prodding scores of people to rush to the spot and collect the loot. What makes the incident further more shocking, is that the tanker itself was stolen by a thief when it got overturned.
