Bhushan Kumar, who serves as the T-Series Managing Director, has been accused of rape and an FIR is filed against him. The development comes just a few weeks after the Bombay High Court upheld Abdul Rauf’s life sentence. Rauf was an aide to international gangster Dawood Ibrahin and is the primary accused in the assassination of T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar.

A rape case has been registered against Bhushan Kumar, who serves as the managing director of Indian music record label giant. The 43-year-old Bollywood producer and record company chairman. Has been accusing of raping a 30-year-old woman on the pretext of getting her work in his company. While no arrests have been made, it is reported that investigation is under progress.

On Friday, July 16, news agency ANI reported, “Case registered u/s 376 IPC against Bhushan Kumar, managing director, T-Series, at D.N. Nagar Police station on allegations of rape with a 30-year-old woman on the pretext of engaging her for a project at the company. Probe underway, no arrests made till now.”

Kumar Allegedly Assaulted Woman from 2017 to 2020

As per the reports, the FIR was lodged by the police when a 30-year-old woman accused that she was assaulted by Kumar from September 2017 and his assault continued till 2020. The woman also claimed that she would be harmed if she broke her silence.

FIR Filed under Rape, Cheating and Criminal Intimidation Charges

The FIR has been filed at the D. N. Nagar Police station and the FIR is filed under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code. Kumar is booked under Section 376 (Punishment for rape), Section 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and Section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Not the First time Kumar Accused of Harassment

It should be noted that this is not the first time Kumar has been accused of crimes of such nature. Back in 2018, in the wake of the MeToo movement, a Twitter user had posted her first-person account of how Kumar wanted to sign her for a 3-film deal and how he saw a lot of potential in her. In her account, the anonymous Twitter user claimed that Kumar asked her to come to his place and told her that he was looking for ‘relationship involving work and pleasure’.

The anonymous Twitter user alleged that she was dropped from the project as she had ‘refused to sleep with the ‘boss’’. Further, the woman also alleged that Kumar threatened to spoil her career if she broke her silence.

After being accused of the allegation, Kumar issued a statement in which he said-

“I have taken this allegation very seriously and lodging a complaint with the cyber cell of the Mumbai Police to track the mysterious people(s) whose twitter handles have disappeared within seconds of uploading the malicious tweet. I’ll take all such actions as I will be legally advised.”

“Appalled and Anguished”: Kumar’s Statement in 2018

Speaking to PTI, Kumar was quoted saying-

“I am appalled and anguished to know that my name has been dragged in this #MeToo by some anonymous person(s). The allegations against me are bad on the face of it. I have enjoyed an impeccable reputation and have always maintained professionalism. The tweet has been used as a tool to defame me and malign my reputation.”

Sonu Nigam Calls out Kumar, Claims of Having Video Footage

Bhushan Kumar has also received criticism from National Award-winning singer and performer Sonu Nigam. This happened in 2020 when Nigam took to Twitter and came down hard on Kumar. In his angry rant, Nigam said, “Bhushan Kumar, now I will have to mention you. Now you will be not addressed with respect. You have taken ‘panga’ with the wrong person.

Nigam then further said that he has video footage that can expose Kumar. He said-

“Media knows how this mafia functions. I have a video footage of the same. If you mess with me again, I will share that video on my YouTube channel. Don’t mess with me.”
