In what can be truly dubbed as ‘Thane breakfast killings’, one woman was reportedly murdered for preparing ‘salty’ breakfast, while another for not serving breakfast with tea. The two incidents came shockingly within one week, showing that women continue to face brunt of harassment, and assault for the most trivial matters.

Earlier on Friday, a man murdered his 40-year-old wife after tasting her breakfast and finding it too salty. The incident occurred in Thane’s Bhayandar East and the accused was arrested following his shocking misdeed. The accused in the incident was identified as 46-year-old Nilesh Ghagh while the victim was identified as Nirmala. The accused murdered his wife by strangling her with a long piece of cloth.

The incident transpired just two days after an eerily similar crime was reported from Thane. Earlier on Thursday this week, a woman was shot in her stomach by her father-in-law who was annoyed after the victim didn’t serve him tea with his morning breakfast. The woman was initially reported to be injured, and later reported to have succumbed to her injuries while she was seeking treatment at a private hospital on Friday.

The Facts of the Matter

Some crimes offer a terrible realization of how quickly one’s life can be taken away for the smallest of reasons. This stands especially true for women in a country like India where they have been continually subjected to domestic abuse, harassment and even been victims of some horrific killings over matter related to petty issues and domestic chores.

The issue has once again been brought to light due to two shocking incidents reported back-to-back from Thane. Incidentally, the two incidents involved two women being murdered by men over breakfast.

Second Shocking Incident in Two Days from Thane

Earlier on Friday, waves of shock and horror were felt across Thane when a woman was reported to be murdered by her husband over “salty” breakfast. The incident occurred sometime on Friday morning in Bhayandar East, Thane.

Khichdi was Served with Too Much Salt

Reportedly, the accused Nilesh Ghagh strangled his wife Nirmala to death after having breakfast. The 46-year-old accused was enraged over the khichdi (a rice and lentil Indian dish) served by his 40-year-old wife having too much salt in it.

Press Trust of India quoted a police officer from the Mira- Bhayandar-Vasai Virar police Commissionerate involved in the matter saying, “He killed her using a long piece of cloth”. According to a TOI report, the accused murdered his wife with other family members being present in the house. After killing the victim, the accused fled from the crime scene.

Salt Food was a Trigger for Quarrels

After the police was informed about the matter, a team immediately rushed to the residence. The police sent the victim’s body to autopsy while the accused was arrested the same day from the locality. Preliminary investigation stated that the couple often engaged in quarrels and salty food was one of the triggers for their quarrels.
