A thrilling video is recently going viral which shows a ‘super-dad’ successfully saving his son from a raging bull during a Texas rodeo. The video was shared by the son, identified as Cody Hooks, after the incident transpired.
In the hair-raising video Cody falls off the raging Rodeo bull. In just a few seconds, the bull comes charging back to Cody who’s still on the ground. However, his father intervenes at the right moment and throws himself over his son like a soldier would when he sees a landmine. Cody’s hero father has been identified as Landis Hooks, and is now popularly known as ‘super-dad’.
Although the video of the incident was shared earlier last month, it received its due virality earlier this week after it was covered by major publishing platforms like New York Post, People.com and even American Broadcasting Company owned ABC13. The video of the incident was shared on Instagram and has since received over 120,000 views (and counting).
Background
The state of Texas is known for its hot weather, its barbecues and its rodeo circuit. For the unversed, rodeo is an entertainment event where Texan cowboys show their skills, including riding raging bulls, wild horses and more.
The inclusion of dangerous animals also makes the sport dangerous for all parties involved. According to a study, from 1989 to 2011, there have been 21 deaths reported during a rodeo event. The number may seem insignificant, but one should note that this is way more than any other professional sport or event.
Recently, another tragedy could’ve struck a rodeo event had it not been for the timely intervention of a super-dad.

The Facts of the Matter
When 40-year-old Landis Hooks saw his 18-year-old son Cody thrown off a bull’s back and lying unconscious on the ground, his primal instinct of saving his son at all costs got to him. As the raging bull charged towards an unconscious Cody, his father Landis flung his body over Cody’s to save him from any potential mishap. The entire incident was caught on cam, and was shared on Instagram by Cody.
“Not one to post falling off, but big thanks to my dad @hooks.landis and the bullfighters last night in Belton, Tx could’ve been a hella lot worse,” Cody captioned the hair-raising Instagram video.
What Does the Video Show
In the video gone viral, Cody can be seen thrown off from the back of the raging bull during a rodeo event in Belton, Texas. Things take a turn for worse when the handlers rush in to subdue the bull, but fail to do so. The raging bull soon targets Cody and charges towards him.
However, at that moment his father Landis throws himself on top of his son’s unconscious body and covers his head, which is the most vulnerable body part in a human, with his own.

With over one lakh views on Instagram, thousands of netizens commented on the hair-raising video and applauded the heroics of Cody’s father.
“A father willing to lay down his life for his son,” an Instagram user commented. “Dads a freaking legend..ur lucky boy,” another user commented.
An Instagram user expressed feelings of most viewers astutely and wrote, “Wow. So glad to know you’re both ok. Your dad is amazing. That fierce and protective love of a parent…wow. There was no hesitation as he used his body to shield you. That’s love. That’s strength. That’s a real man. God bless you both.”
