In news pertaining to the incessant Tirupati rain, a horrific video has emerged which shows a man trying to save himself while getting washed away in flood. On November 18, several areas of Tirupati were submerged due to heavy rainfall witnessed in the district and other regions of Andhra Pradesh including Chitoor, Tirumala, etc. The intensity of rainfall was such that several prominent landmarks such as the Kapila Theertham temple, the Air Bypass Road are at the mercy of the rainfall slowing down. Due to the rainfall, traffic in the district has come to a screeching halt and videos are showing that people’s home are also filled with water level that’s increasing.

Background

Call it climate change, call it nature’s wrath, or call it just plain bad luck, but 2021 has been a year filled with natural calamities in India. As the country continued to fight its uphill battle with COVID-19, cyclones, landslides, and flooding were witnessed in several parts of the country.

In Himachal Pradesh alone, as many as 187 people have been reported dead since June this year due to natural calamities. Similarly, as many as 298 people have died in weather-related disasters in Uttarakhand in 2021.

Maharashtra too had its fair share of weather-related incidents and at least 209 people have died in the state due to flooding and the landslides that followed.

The Facts of the Matter

Tirupati, the home to Tirumala Venkateswara Temple has been receiving incessant rainfall since the past couple of days, throwing the lives of locals and pilgrims in disarray. The rainfall has been caused due to a heavy depression in Bay of Bengal. Several other parts of the Chittoor district have also been receiving rainfall with waters rising to a point of submerging the house of locals across the district.

Several shocking visuals of the consequence of the downpour have surfaced, sending a wave of shock and horror amid masses across the nation. In the wake of the downpour, a video of a man struggling to find his feed as he’s being washed in the floods are making the rounds of internet.

What Does the Video Show?

The barely 23 second video shows a flooded street of the affected region. One can see the locals standing on one side of the street helplessly as they overlook a man fighting against the heavy flow of the floods. The man wearing a raincoat is seen struggling to find his feet as the water continues to flow and wash him away. As of yet, it hasn’t been ascertained whether the man suffered injury or was saved later.

Other Harrowing Visuals From the Tirupati Rain

Several more videos have surfaced in the wake of the rain. In a particular video, the main temple of Tirupati can be seen flooded. The streets adjoining the temple also remained flooded. The Vaikuntham complex, a region from where one makes it to the Darshan was also submerged.

Relief Amount of Rs. 1,000 Announced for Those Taking Shelters

Amid the downpour, Andhra Pradesh CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy held a meeting to take a stock of the situation with authorities. The CM also held a meeting with district Deputy Commissioner and directed to arrange relief shelters for the affected. A relief amount of Rs. 1,000 was also announced for those who had to take the shelter.

SDRF, NDRF Teams Called, 300 People Evacuated So Far

For the affected citizens, 4 relief camps have already been set up and as many as 300 people have been taken to the relief camps. Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force are also called to evacuate people if the situation worsens.
