Amid rumours about strained marital relationship, TMC MP and actress Nusrat Jahan on June 9 claimed that her wedding with her husband of 2-years is ‘invalid’. Nikhil Jain and Nusrat Jahan had an interfaith marriage on June 19, 2019 in Turkey. Her marriage came after she contested in the Lok Sabha elections from the Basirhat constituency and won.
According to a statement released by Jahan, the couple does not need to get divorced as their marriage was never valid under the Indian law. The TMC MP said that since it was an interfaith marriage between her and Jain which was solemnized in a foreign country as per the Turkish law, it was not valid under the India’s Special Marriage Act.
The statement read as following –
“As per court of law, it is not a Marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship. Thus, the question of divorce does not arise. Our separation happened long back, but I did not speak about it as I intended to keep my private life to myself…The alleged marriage is not legal, valid and tenable; and thus, not a marriage at all in the eye of the law.”

Husband Nikhil Jain’s Response
Nikhil Jain informed that he has moved an annulment appeal in Kolkata, but won’t divulge anything on the sub-judice case. He also stated that-
“These are legalities; I don’t really want to comment on anything she’s said because the matter is sub-judice in court.”

Money taken by person ‘claiming to be rich’
Nusrat further alleged, without taking names, that the person ‘who claims to be rich’, has been taking out money from her bank account. She said how she has taken to the respective banking authorities and will go on to file a police complaint. Nusrat further alleged that Jain has been mishandling her funds without her consent and she may release the proof of the act if she will be made to.
“I have already taken this up with the concerned banking authority and a police complaint shall be filed shortly. In the past, details of all family accounts were handed over to him, upon his requests and none of me or my family members was aware of any instructions given to the bank via our accounts. He has also been mishandling my funds from various accounts without my knowledge and consent. I am still battling it out with the bank & if need be, would release proof of the same,”

Yash Dasgupta is an actor and politician from West Bengal. Known for is roles in Na Aana Is Des Laado & Bojhena Se Bojhena, Dasgupta was declared by the BJP as its candidate from the Chanditala constituency. In the West Bengal Assembly Elections that were to be held from March 27, 2021, Dasgupta competed with TMC’s Swati Khandoker and lost the election by 41,347 votes.

While neither Yash nor Nusrat has confirmed the status of their relationship with each other, the buzz around their relationship has increased recently. When asked about the relationship, Yash had dismissed all the rumours and said that they are “just friends”.
Recently in an interview, Dasgupta was quizzed on what he felt on joining a rival party given that her close friend Nusrat Jahan is an MP from TMC. To this, Dasgupta said-
“At home do family members not have different opinions?”
When further asked if he means a family like Twinkle Khanna & Akshay Kumar, Dasgupta said-
“No, Akshay & Twinkle are married. Nusrat and I aren’t. But you get the drift!”
Pregnancy rumours
Nusrat is rumoured to be expecting her first child. According to Nikhil, he was not aware of Nusrat’s pregnancy and reportedly mentioned that child isn’t his because they have not been in contact for months. On the other hand, Nusrat, in her seven-point statement, didn’t talk about her pregnancy or anything related to that.
