With the appointment of Parag Agrawal as the new CEO, Tweeter’s private information policy has been expanded to include “private media”.

Under this new rule, Tweeter will block users from sharing personal images and videos without the individual’s consent. The individual, not being a public figure can demand Twitter eliminate pictures and videos that were posted without his/her consent. Twitter takes this measure to further ensure the privacy of the public.

What is the Company’s Statement?

The company stated, “The misuse of private media can affect everyone, but can have a disproportionate effect on women, activists, dissidents, and members of minority communities.”

“We recognize that there are instances where account holders may share images or videos of private individuals to help someone involved in a crisis situation, such as in the aftermath of a violent event, or as part of a newsworthy event due to public interest value, and this might outweigh the safety risks to a person,”

Twitter will be notified when any non-public figure’s image or video will be shared without their consent, and the company promised to remove that media as soon as possible.
