Trainee Air Hostess Found Dead in Mumbai Flat

A 24-year-old trainee flight attendant with Air India was found murdered in her rented flat in Mumbai’s Andheri suburb on Monday morning.

The victim, identified as Rupal Ogrey, originally from Chhattisgarh, had her throat slit by a sharp object, said police. She had moved to Mumbai in April this year and was undergoing training with Air India.

Police Suspect Known Assailant

The Mumbai police have registered a case of murder and have arrested a 40-year-old man identified as Vikram Atval, who worked as a sweeper in the housing society where Ogrey lived.

“The accused has confessed to the crime and we have recovered the suspected murder weapon from him,” said a senior police inspector from Powai police station.

Police suspect that Atval, who had access to Ogrey’s flat as part of his job, committed the crime between Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning.

Victim Lived Alone, Family alerted Police

Ogrey lived alone in her rented flat as her sister and sister’s boyfriend, who stayed with her earlier, had gone to their hometown a few days back.

When she did not answer phone calls from her family on Sunday, they requested her friends in Mumbai to check on her. The friends informed the police when they found the flat locked from inside and got no response.

Police Broke Open Flat, Found Body

“We broke open the flat and found the woman lying dead in a pool of blood with her throat slit,” said a sub-inspector from the investigating team.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigations are underway, police said. They are scanning CCTV footage from the society and the victim’s phone for more clues.

Ogrey’s family members in Chhattisgarh have been informed about the tragic incident and are headed to Mumbai, according to reports.
