Netizens on Twitter erupted with reactions after Kangana Ranaut’s Twitter account got suspended permanently. The outspoken actress, who’s been a clear supporter of the right-winged Modi govt, posted a series of tweets reacting to the West Bengal assembly election violence. The tweets not only received severe criticism from the masses on Twitter, but also led her to her account being suspended. According to the social media platform, she violated the platform’s rules.
Background
On Monday, May 3rd, Kangana Ranaut reacted to the ongoing violence in West Bengal and sent a tweet that triggered Twitter to suspend her account. In the tweet she asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “tame” the TMC supremo and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee by using his “viraat roop” that emerged in “early 2000s”.
To the uninitiated, Kangana was referring to the Gujarat violence that occurred back in 2002 during which Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister. Although Modi has been given a clean chit by the Nanavati Panel, he has been under flak by the liberals of the country who hold him partly responsible for not curbing the violence and letting thousands of people die.
Details
After Kangana’s account was suspended, a Twitter spokesperson was quoted by news agencies who said, “We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behaviour that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy. We enforce the Twitter Rules judiciously and impartially for everyone on our service.”

Kangana Ranaut’s reaction to her account’s suspension
“Twitter has only proved my point they’re Americans & by birth, a white person feels entitled to enslave a brown person, they want to tell you what to think, speak or do. I have many platforms I can use to raise my voice, including my own art in the form of cinema,” Ranaut said, as quoted by ANI.
Kangana Ranaut and Twitter: A cocktail of controversy
Although this was the first time a concrete action was taken against Ranaut for her triggering and hate inciting tweets, this was not the first time she tweeted something like that.
Just recently the actress had taken to Twitter and wrote, “Everybody is building more and more oxygen plants, getting tons and tons of oxygen cylinders, how are we compensating for all the oxygen that we are forcefully drawing from the environment? It seems we learnt nothing from our mistakes and catastrophes they cause #PlantTrees.”
Her tweet came at a time when the entire was and still is struggling with the second wave of COVID-19 and dealing with the lack of oxygen supply.
Earlier last year, she called out Bollywood actors like Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor and others and insisted them to take drug test. Her tweet came a few weeks after the untimely demise of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
“I request Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Ayan Mukerji, Vicky Kaushik to give their blood samples for drug test, there are rumours that they are cocaine addicts, I want them to bust these rumours, these young men can inspire millions if they present clean samples @PMOIndia,” Ranaut wrote in a tweet.
A few days after the death of the Bollywood superstar, which was ruled a suicide later, Ranaut took to Twitter again and attacked several people from Bollywood industry. Ranaut alleged that these individuals were insiders.
Earlier, she also attacked Bollywood producer-director Karan Johar of “trapping” Sushant. She further alleged that Johar promoted “nepokids” and gave them big breaks due to which “outsiders” were left with no level-playing field.
She wrote, “Karan Johar the main culprit of movie mafia! @PMOIndia even after ruining so many lives and careers he is roaming free no action taken against him, is there any hope for us? After all is settled, he and his gang of hyenas will come for me.”
Later, the same year, she also attacked critically lauded actresses Taapsee Pannu and Swara Bhaskar and called them ‘B-Grade Actresses’. She also slammed Ayushmann Khurrana and called him a ‘chaploos outsider’ claiming that he was a mediocre actor.
