A UK bachelor is making buzz by finding a unique way to look for a wife. He has advertised himself on billboard and has further set up a website. 29-year-old Mohammad Malik has setup a website “findmalikawife.com” wherein he has shared details about his family background, his preferences, and ways he can be contacted on social media platforms. Just to avoid any confusion, he has also added “No, this isn’t a joke”, on his website’s masthead. Meanwhile, he can also be seen smiling casually and asking “save me from arranged marriage” to the drivers in Birmingham, thanks to billboards set up across the city.

The Facts of the Matter

Matrimonial websites, dating platforms like Bumble and Tinder, and even professional platforms such as LinkedIn; desperate singles across the world can turn any platform into a platform where they can look for their future partners. Single Indians living in India and abroad also have the support of their families. These families arrange marriages for them by picking up an appropriate match from the same communities.

A Muslim man from UK has taken a unique route to look for his future wife. Neither has he chosen the route of going to dating platforms, nor has he created a profile on a matrimonial website. The man has a more direct approach – he has set up several billboards across Birmingham on which he can be seen sitting down with the text reading – “save me from arranged marriage”.

Malik’s Reason for Choosing a Unique Way of Finding Bride

Originally from London, he claims Birmingham as his ‘second home’. As to why he had to go down this unique path to find a bride, he was quoted in a Daily Mail report saying “’I’m a creative, love doing the most random and absurd – 100 per cent halal of course – things. Traditional methods such as ‘rishta aunties’ didn’t work for me so thought why not take it to the billboards!”

For the unversed ‘rishta’ means a proposal and ‘rishta aunties’ can be any relative of a bachelor person who looks for potential matches for them.

The approach is truly a no-expense-spared one as the average cost to use a billboard for advertising in UK is somewhere around £500-£600 (Rs. 50,000-Rs. 60,000) per week.
