In UK, a woman survived sepsis and had to trade her fingers to instead get “shark hand” for herself. The 34-year-old woman, identified as Sadie Kemp, recently took to TikTok and gave an account of her fight with sepsis, that she has fought with the help of her sense of humour and bravery.

According to reports, Sadie had to get her fingers amputated and the doctors ended up sewing her hand into a pouch in her stomach to make sure blood continued flowing in and around the affected area. After the doctors took her hand, it looked quite different than it did when there was no inkling of a potential surgery due to sepsis.

Following the surgery, Sadie realized how of her hand looked like the face of a shark. Turning adversity into something she could have fun with, Sadie started sharing videos of her ‘shark hand’ on TikTok and raised awareness on sepsis.

Her most recent video shared on TikTok has garnered over 60 million views and as many as 2.1 million likes so far.

The Facts of the Matter

Austrian holocaust survivor and philosopher Viktor Frankl in his book Man’s Search for Meaning wrote extensively on sense of humour. In his autobiographical book, Viktor Frankl wrote how humour can help one deal with the biggest of tragedies and sufferings.

A UK-based woman is proving the same true by using her sense of humour to accept and cope up with the aftermath of a surgery. The 34-year-old woman Sadie, was rushed to a surgery where her fingers from both her hands had to be amputated. After she got out of surgery, Sadie realized that one of her amputated hand looks like a shark’s head.

Using her “shark hand” the woman is now raising awareness on Sepsis – a potentially life-threatening medical emergency – due to which she had to undergo the surgery.
