The US recently issued a statement pertaining to the attack on the Indian consulate in San Francisco and called the entire ordeal “unacceptable”. The statement comes days after a group of pro-Khalistani protestors entered the Indian consulate. They broke open the security barriers put up in place by the city police and set up their own flags inside the premises of the consulate. As they wreaked havoc in the Indian consulate, they raised pro-Khalistani slogans.

Soon, chaos erupted as group of protestors entered the premises of the Indian consulate and started banging the doors and windows with sticks and rods that they carried to the protest.

In the aftermath, John Kirby, National Security Council Coordinator for strategic communications at the White House, strongly condemned the attack and vandalism. “That vandalism, it’s just absolutely unacceptable,” Kirby said.

“I can’t speak for the San Francisco police, but I can say that the diplomatic security service is working with local authorities to properly investigate and obviously, the State Department is going to be working from an infrastructure perspective to repair the damage, but it’s unacceptable,” he further added.

The Facts of the Matter

London Witnesses Pro-Khalistani Attack

In a similar incident, a group of individuals took down the Indian flag while chanting pro-Khalistan slogans outside the High Commission in London on Sunday. The Indian government has summoned the “senior-most” UK diplomat to protest against the incident, and the UK’s High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, has condemned the actions of the pro-Khalistan group as “totally unacceptable.”

The Indian government has also demanded an explanation from the UK on the complete absence of British security that allowed the pro-Khalistani elements to enter the High Commission premises, reminding them of their basic obligations under the Vienna Convention.

The upheaval comes at a time when Punjab Police has initiated a massive state-hunt for the arrest of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh. Amritpal is a Khalistan separatist and has been reported to have close linkes to Pakistan’s ISI.
