Union Health Minister inaugurates Burn and Plastic Surgery block at AIIMS. The Union Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan on Monday inaugurated the new constructed block for ‘Burn and Plastic Surgery’ at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He dedicated the block to the ‘Father of Plastic Surgery’, ancient Indian physician Sushruta.

The existing number of facilities fall short in providing the assistance as required due to the high number of burn cases and state-of-the-art burn care is negligible. There is an urgent need for a healthcare facility which can provide high quality care for the population. With that being said the Union Health Ministry also added while talking to the reporters after inauguration that “It is a joyous occasion for AIIMS today as this will go down in the golden book of history, the addition of a development. An exclusive state of the art department for burns and plastic surgery starts here, all related facilities regarding burns and plastic surgery are available here.”

About 70 lakh people around the country get injured due to burns every year. Of which about 1.4 lakh people die. Every four minute one person gets injured because of burns. Not only injuries, but plastic surgeries are also needed for children at the time of birth to battle with their deformities. The   people who suffer in this situation are the ones who can’t afford to pay for such surgeries.

The Health minister also congratulated the AIIMS Director, Dr Randeep Guleria and Burn and Plastic Surgery Block Head, Maneesh Singhal for their efforts.
