In a shocking incident reported from UP, a class 7 boy from Rae Bareli allegedly hanged himself after being thrashed by his school principal and teacher. Following the incident, the principal and teacher of the ICSE affiliated school were booked for abetment of suicide. The deceased boy was identified as Yash Singh, who was allegedly cheating to write his half-yearly papers, when he was caught.

The incident was reported from the Mill police station jurisdiction in Rae Bareli district. A TOI report quoted Rae Bareli SP, Alok Priyadarshini, saying that the school teacher identified as Monika Margo, and school principal Rajni D’Souza have been booked for abetment of suicide.

The matter came to the fore after the family members of deceased, a class 7 student, was found him hanging inside his room. During investigation, a suicide note was recovered which read – “Maine paper main cheating kari Biology paper main (I have done cheating in Biology paper). I am going to die today, don’t blame my uncle/aunt/father and mother. Galti karne ke baad kisi ko ek mauka zarur dena chahiye (An opportunity must be given to all those who commit mistakes). I am crying because of my mistake. I am feeling very ashamed. I am not able to control my mind and have very bad thoughts. Respect to all children,” as quoted by TOI.

The Facts of the Matter

In UP’s Rae Bareli district, a class 7 student committed suicide after being thrashed by his principal and school teacher. The deceased was the student of a private ICSE school and was giving his half-yearly exams. The deceased, Yash Singh, was allegedly caught cheating during his half-yearly exams and was caught, following which he hanged himself.

For now, the police have booked school principal Rajni D’Souza and teacher Monika Margo for abetment of suicide after a complaint was filed at the Mill police station.

Deceased was Caught Cheating by Teacher

As per the preliminary investigation, the deceased was giving her biology paper when he was caught cheating by his teacher. He was then brought to the school principal and was thrashed by the principal and the teacher.

While speaking to TOI, the deceased’s uncle Ram Maurya mentioned that Yash had come to home in a devastated state earlier on September 22. He had locked himself in the room. When Yash’s uncle didn’t hear from Yash for a concerningly long time, he knocked the room, and found it to be locked.

Uncle Finds Deceased Boy Hanging

After breaking the door, Ram Maurya found his nephew hanging from the ceiling fan with a bedsheet tied around his neck. Ram subsequently called police, and Yash was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Distressing Suicide Note Recovered

During the investigation, police recovered the distressing suicide note Yash left behind. In the suicide note, Yash mentioned that he was caught cheating during his biology paper. He also mentioned that his family members must not be blamed, and concluded the note with – “ek mauka zarur dena chahiye (one more opportunity must be given)”.

Probe Initiated

While the police mentioned that the writing in the letter matches to Yash’s writing, the letter has been sent to an expert for further probe.

Rai Bareli Superintendent of Police, Alok Priyadarshi was quoted in a TOI report saying, “The probe has been entrusted to an officer of the rank of deputy superintendent of police. We will take statements from other students and look at all the aspects of the case.”
