In a harrowing incident reported from UP, a pregnant woman in Bareilly was allegedly gang-raped by 3 men and suffered a miscarriage due to the sexual assault. Meanwhile, the family of the survivor alleged police inaction in the matter. The incident was reported from Bisharatganj in Bareilly district and occurred earlier on September 13.

According to reports, the 3-month pregnant survivor was working in a farm in the Bisharatganj police station limits when she was ambushed by three men who gang-raped her and then fled the spot. Meanwhile, when she did not arrive at her home for a concerningly long time, her family started looking for her.

The family found her in a serious condition and rushed her to a private hospital. At the hospital, the doctors informed the family that the woman suffered a miscarriage. An FIR has been registered in the matter and one of the accused men has already been arrested. To seek justice, the family of the survivor reached the SSP office with the foetus in a jar.

Police station-in-charge Rajesh Kumar claimed that a complaint was lodged by the survivor’s husband on September 16. However, the survivor’s husband alleged police inaction, and claimed that he filed the complaint on the day of the incident.

The Facts of the Matter

Heinous crimes against women show no signs of being curbed in India’s most populous state Uttar Pradesh. Recently, another blood-curdling crime against woman was reported in Uttar Pradesh, shedding the crucial light on the fact that a lot is desired in the state when it comes to the safety of its women.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, a three-month pregnant woman was allegedly gang-raped by three men, following which she suffered a miscarriage. According to reports, the survivor is currently in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Survivor was Working in a Farm

According to reports, the pregnant survivor was working at a work in the Bisharatganj police station jurisdiction when she was ambushed by three men who allegedly raped her. The incident occurred on September 13.

After the woman didn’t arrive at her home, her concerned family started looking for her. She was found in a critical condition and was rushed to the local hospital. She is currently in critical condition, reports state.

Conflicting Claims by Police and Husband

Meanwhile, the police registered an FIR and one of the accused men was arrested earlier on Tuesday. Bisharatganj police station in-charge Rajesh Kumar spoke to the media and said that the survivor’s husband filed a complaint earlier on September 16 at a women’s police station.

However, alleging police action, the survivor’s husband claimed that he filed a complaint on the day of the incident and added that the police failed to take action. When his wife’s condition deteriorated, he took her to the private hospital, from where he filed a postal complaint, on which the police registered the FIR.

Family Takes Foetus in Jar to SSP Office

Seeking justice for the survivor, her family members approached the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office with the miscarried foetus in a plastic jar. Taking cognizance, SP Rajkumar Agarwal stated that further action will be taken as the facts and evidences in the case would emerge.

Crimes Against Women in UP

It should be noted that 30,864 complaints of crimes against women were registered by National Commission of Women in 2021 in India, the most since 2014. Shockingly, more than half of them were reported from Uttar Pradesh at 15,828 such cases, followed by Delhi (3,336) and Maharashtra (1,504).
