“They have cheated to a majority”: Akhilesh Yadav after BJP’s Majority Win
After the drastic loss, Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the state’s administrative authorities and the police were used to make sure that the BJP candidates win. In an Indian Express report, Yadav was quoted saying-
“It is strange…most winning candidates in elections for Zila Panchayat members were from SP, how did BJP win more seats for presidents’ posts? They have cheated to a majority. Administrative officials were also involved in this.”
In his statement, Yadav claimed that BJP had compromised the country’s democratic regulations and have made a “joke” out of the process of fair elections.
“No one has seen such an ugly face of power in the state. To convert their defeats into wins, they kidnapped voters with use of administration and police (officials) and through helpers ensured votes to their candidates. When our leaders and workers opposed this fraud and cheating, they were mistreated and misbehaved with,”

BJP State Vice President Retaliates on Akhilesh Yadav’s Claims
Meanwhile, hitting back on Yadav’s allegations, BJP State Vice president, and Panchayat polls in charge, Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that Yadav should respect the democratic boundaries. Pathak put the BJP victory in relative terms and said that when Samajwadi Party wins in other districts, Yadav calls it democracy. However, he further added-
“When six of his 11 members don’t support him, he calls it murder of democracy… The Election Commission should take cognizance of the SP chief threatening officers openly.”
