US-based interior designer, Jade Janks, was recently found guilty of drugging her step father, and murdering him after finding hundreds of her nude pictures in his computer. The 39-year-old was recently convicted for murdering her 64-year-old stepfather Thomas Merriman. She now faces 25 years in prison and is scheduled for another hearing on April 3. Jade reportedly slayed her father after finding compromising pictures of herself in his computer.
The San Diego-based interior designer, told that she was “beyond freaked out” when she made the discovery, and maintained that her stepdad passed away due to his prolonged illness. Jade maintained that her father’s cocktail of sleeping pills caused the death, and further mentioned that it was “gut-wrenching” seeing the objectionable pictures.
Jade has been accused of drugging her stepfather, suffocating him with a plastic bag, and then strangling him to death. Further, she also allegedly sent a text to an acquaintance which read “I just dosed the hell out of him”.
Further texts shown to the jury had Jade texting she is going to “club him on the head as he is waking up”. Another similar text indicated that she was carrying her step father in a trunk.
Earlier after her arrest, she was freed on a $1 million bail, and now stands to face a 25-year sentence.
The Facts of the Matter

The 39-year-old accused, identified as Jade Janks, was recently pronounced guilty of a first-degree murder of her step father Thomas Merriman. The horrific murder occurred earlier on December 31, 2020.

Finding Pictures on Stepfather’s Computer
After being accused of murdering her step father, Jade pleaded innocence, and stated that her step father’s ill health was the cause of his death. However, she did mention seeing more than 100 nude pictures of herself on his computer.
Deputy District Attorney Jorge Del Portillo, looked into the eye of jurors, and said, “This was no accident. This was murder by design.” Prosecutors also showed jury texts sent by Jade, in which she confesses drugging her step father.
“About to club him…”: Texts Sent by Accused
One of the texts sent by Jade had her confessing that “she dosed the hell out of him” after she picked him up from a hospital. “I am about to club him on the head as he is waking up”, read one of the other texts, and a third text showed to jurors read – “He’s waking up. I really don’t want to be the one to do this”.
“Most violating, awful feeling..”
The jury was told that Jade, discovered her naked pictures when she was cleaning the deceased step father’s apartment after he was hospitalized. While her mother was no longer with her step father, Jade and the deceased were close.
During the trial, Jade opened up about seeing her pictures in her father’s computer, and saying, “It was the most violating, awful, gut-wrenching feeling ever. I felt sick, I felt I couldn’t even touch my own skin.”

Defence Claims Innocence
Meanwhile, Defense lawyer Marc Carlos continues to maintain her client’s innocence, and in an interview with NBC, said, “The reason why Jade went to trial was she believed she was not guilty of this thing, and that’s been her position through the whole case.”
