Surgeons in US gave shocking details regarding the case of a US-based man who was hospitalized after eating a condom-wrapped banana in a fit of ‘hormonal rage’. The incident was reported from Iowa where an unnamed 34-year-old man was rushed to the hospital after he was unable to consume any food or drink for over 24 hours. Surgeons involved in the bizarre case were able to successfully removed the object from the man’s system.
In a case likely to evoke myriad of responses in and outside the field of medicine, the 34-year-old patient arrived at the hospital with symptoms mentioned above, along with abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea. The symptoms arrived a day after the man ate a condom-rapped banana, an object he accepted on ingesting after he was made to undergo several tests.
After the doctors showed him the CT and x-ray scans with blockage clearly visible, the embarrassed patient accepted swallowing the banana in a fit of ‘hormonal rage’. The man was rushed into surgery, where the surgeons were able to successfully remove the obstructing object from his system.
Three days post-surgery, the man was discharged, and he recovered to a point where he could eat and go to the loo without any issue. The case-study mentioned that the man had a history of depression.
The Facts of the Matter
Doctors across the world are often faced with some strange complaints. However, a patient coming with a condom-wrapped banana stuffed in his system simply surpassed anyone’s expectations. The incident comes in the form of a case study which surfaced on medical journal Cureus. The case study was aptly titled “Banana in a Condom: An Unusual Cause of Small Bowel Obstruction”.

34-YO Develops Distressing Symptoms
According to reports, a 34-year-old unnamed man rushed to a hospital in Iowa, complaining of nausea, vomiting and excruciating abdominal pain. Further, the man was also not able to consume any food or drink due to an obstruction in his system.
The 34-year-old patient didn’t reveal as to what the object was or how it made into his system. The doctors unable to ascertain as to what the cause of his symptoms could be, made him undergo CT scan and x-rays. The examination reports showed a prophylactic-covered fruit ingested in the man’s body.

The Confrontation & Confession
Later, when the doctors confronted the man with the reports and its findings, the man reluctantly spilled the beans. The embarrassed 34-year-old man said that he ingested a condom-wrapped banana in a bout of hormonal rage.
The patient then underwent an invasive surgery where the surgeons were able to remove the fruit from the man’s insides that had caused the blockage and obstruction. In the case-study it was reported that the man was discharged three days post-surgery whereupon he recovered to a point where he could eat and go to the loo normally.

Man Recovers Fully After Operation
“Two weeks after the operation, he was tolerating a low-fiber diet without nausea or vomiting. He had a return of normal bowel movements, and his pain was well-controlled,” the report read.
“At six months, he continued to endorse normal bowel patterns and diet. He was able to slowly resume his active lifestyle and did not have major concerns,” the report further read.
In the case study, the doctors wrote that the man had a history with depression, which likely was the cause of his erratic and dubious actions.
