In a baffling turn-of-events, a woman in US recently woke up after being in coma for 2 years and revealed that it was her own brother who had tried to kill her. The incident, which almost reads like a Netflix show, transpired in West Virginia back in 2020.

The woman in question, 51-year-old Wanda Palmer, was “attacked, hacked, and left for dead”. Two years later, she recently gained consciousness, and accused her brother Daniel Palmer to have attacked her. Daniel is now charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding for the June 2020 attack.

According to West Virginia authorities, they received an alert from the care center where Wanda palmer regained consciousness earlier last week. The care centre personnel also told the authorities that Palmer identified her attacker, who was her own brother

Later, the investigators assigned to the case went to the care centre and met Palmer, who had suffered massive brain damage due to the attack. However, she again identified her brother as the attacker

Following the revelation, Daniel was arrested for his involvement in the incident. Shockingly enough, he didn’t evade or give authorities a fight for his arrest, something that the police found surprising.

The Facts of the Matter

Imagine a woman, being hacked viciously, left for dead. The emergency responders somehow manage to rush her to the hospital, and she lives – but suffers a severe brain injury. A brain injury that leaves her comatose for the next two years. While the ordeal may sound tragic, a twist emerges in the tale as the woman not only wakes up from her comatose states, but also identifies her attacker – who is none other, than her own sibling.

If this reads like something out of a potboiler Hindi film, we have to tell you that this is a real incident and was reported very recently.

The Gruesome Attack

According to reports, now 51-year-old Wanda Palmer was left to dead in June 2020 at her Cottageville, West Virginia, residence. The police were called to the scene of crime and when they found her, they considered her to be dead.

“When we got there, to be honest we thought she was dead. We had a little bit of an idea what happened, but the problem was with the nuts and bolts of the case we had nothing to go on,” Sherrif Mellenger was quoted saying in a Metro News.

Case Gets Frustrating

What made the case even more frustrating for the investigators was that there were no eye-witnessess to the incident. During investigation, the police failed to find anything in surveillance footage, and couldn’t find any cell phone data.

The case was going colder by every passing day. While the police did investigate several people, they couldn’t find any evidence that could be used to file charges against a suspect. Many would have lost hope at any progress, however, a single twist of fate changed everything.

Victim Wakes Up After 2 Years in Coma

A couple of weeks ago, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department received a call from the care facility where Palmer was in the comatose state for the past two years. They told the police that Palmer had gained consciousness and was in the condition to speak to the authorities.

While she was only able to answer in simple yes-or-no questions, the short but accurate testimony revealed that Palmer was attacked by her own brother Daniel.

Brother Arrested, Didn’t Resist Arrest

The police quickly drew charges on 55-year-old Daniel Palmer who was arrested earlier on Friday for attempted murder and malicious wounding.

A The Independent report quoted Sheriff Mellenger saying, “The keys to the whole thing lay with the victim herself and with her unable to communicate we were left with nothing. Now low and behold two years later and boom, she’s awake and able to tell us exactly what happened.”

“He didn’t give us any fight or anything. There was a little bit of surprise, but not entirely,” he added.
