In a chilling tale of irony and deceit, a Utah woman, who wrote a children’s book on dealing with grief, has found herself being charged with her husband’s murder! The 33-year-old woman, identified as Kouri Richins, appeared as a seemingly grief-stricken widow, penning a children’s book to cope with the loss of her beloved husband. However, she is now entangled in a web of murder and drug-related charges.

The devastating sequence of events unfolded on a fateful day in March 2022, just a day before Kouri’s husband, Eric Richins, passed away unexpectedly. According to court documents that have come to light, the tragedy unfolded in the early morning hours of March 4, 2022. Eric’s lifeless body was discovered at the foot of their bed.

A year had passed since that heart-wrenching event, and Kouri, seeking solace amidst her grief, had embarked on an unexpected path: she poured her anguish into the creation of a children’s book exploring the depths of sorrow.

However, investigators meanwhile had suspicion of foul play, and investigation led to the harrowing truth to be uncovered. According to charging documents, Kouri Richins stood accused of poisoning her husband with a lethal dose of fentanyl.

During interrogation, Kouri confessed to having prepared a mixed drink for her husband, ostensibly celebrating his recent achievement of selling a home.

The Facts of the Matter

Entitled “Are you with me?”, Kouri Richins’ self-published book delicately explored the questions of a young boy, grappling with the ethereal presence of his departed father. She wrote the book after losing her husband and poured all her sorrow and creative pursuit into writing the book.

Little did anyone suspect that within the shattered fragments of her own grief-stricken side, a dark secret lived.

Utah Woman Arrested for Murdering Husband

The 33-year-old Utah-based woman was arrested on Monday and charged with the murder of her husband, Eric Richins. The accusation stemmed from allegations that she had administered a lethal dose of fentanyl, a powerful opioid, leading to his demise.

The evidence included a distress call made by Kouri on the night of the incident, where she reported her husband’s lifeless state and claimed to have made him a celebratory drink prior to his death.

Medical Exam Reveals Horrors Husband Endured

The subsequent medical examination revealed a significantly high level of fentanyl in Eric’s system, exceeding the lethal dosage. Alongside the murder charge, Kouri faced additional charges related to the alleged possession of GHB, a drug known for recreational use.

The investigation also brought to light a Valentine’s Day incident, during which Eric fell seriously ill after a dinner and expressed concerns to a friend that he believed his wife was trying to poison him.

These details, along with the alleged presence of deleted text messages and the testimony of an unidentified acquaintance who claimed to have sold Kouri fentanyl, formed the basis of the charges against her.

Accused Wrote Children’s Book on Grief

In her book, “Are you with me?”, Kouri had sought to create a resource for children coping with the loss of loved ones. She explained that her motivation stemmed from her own experience as a widow, raising three boys alone after her husband’s sudden passing.

However, the tragic irony of her situation cast a shadow over her intentions and left the community grappling with the incongruity between her public persona and the allegations against her.

Not First Such Incident

This is not the first such incident of a book serving as a foreshadowing to something much more sinister. Nancy Crampton Brophy, now 71, found herself on trial for the murder of her husband, chef Daniel Brophy.

Nancy was reportedly known for her literary pursuits and the being the writer of a rather provocative essay titled “How To Murder Your Husband”, which explored the avenues of untraceable murder.
