The report comes weeks after the nation was shaken by the news of a 14-year-old being gangraped in Pune. As many as 19 men were accused in their connection to the matter, including 2 railway employees.

Pune, Delhi, Haryana, Goa – the harrowing list of cities that witnessed gang-rapes in the country in 2021 has been heart wrenching. What was even worse in these cases was the fact that the crime was committed on minors.
According to a report, sexual offences against children is committed in every 15 minutes in India. Further, in the past decade, sexual offenses against minors have seen an alarming surge of 500%.
Recently, Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district witnessed another such incident where two minor girls were gang-raped and then extorted off money.

The Facts of the Matter
2 minor girls – 15-year-old and 16-year-old – were gang raped in a cybercafé in Kannauj. According to reports, the girls had gone to the cybercafé to photocopy some documents. However, upon reaching the cybercafe, the minors were held hostage and then gangraped by 4-men.
Reportedly, the incident took place on September 13. The minor girls had gone to the cybercafé owned and managed by one of the accused. The minor girls told the police that they were then held hostage for hours and gangraped.

Accused Took Video, Extorted Rs. 10,000
Further, the accused also took video of the entire depraved crime. They later blackmailed the minor gangrape survivors that if they won’t pay money, they would make the videos go viral. The accused went on to extort Rs. 10,000 from the minor girls.
Family Finds Money Missing, Police Brought In
Days later, the survivors’ family observed that the amount of money was missing from their homes. According to Prashant Varma, Kannauj Superintendent of Police, this is how the whole incident came to light. When the minors were asked about the situation with the money, they confessed that they stole it from their homes to pay off the extortion money.
After the horrific crime was brought to light, FIR was filed against 4 persons under sections of both Indian Penal Code and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. The 16-year-old girl also gave her statement, through which the FIR was filed.

Police Arrests Accused, Evidence of Prostitution Racket Run in Cybercafe
As soon as the FIR was filed, the district’s police swung into action. On Monday, September 27, a person was arrested from Gorakhpur. Meanwhile, the 3 other accused were found in Kannauj and were detained.
On further investigation, the police found evidences of a prostitution racket being run in the cybercafé. One of the girls involved in the matter told the police that an accused’s wife called her and pushed her into prostitution.
33 People Arrested in the Dombivli Gang Rape Case
In a blood-curdling development, as many as 33 people have been arrested in the Dombivli gangrape case. Reportedly, a 15-year-old girl was gangraped for a period of nine months at multiple locations in Mumbai.
Reportedly, the minor girl’s friend raped her and took video of the crime. He then blackmailed her using the video and continued raping her. The situation went from bad to worse when the video was shared by the accused with others – who all used the video to blackmail the minor and rape her.
