Over two dozen employees working on a Sewer Treatment Plant project in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand were electrocuted after a transformer reportedly exploded at the site of the Alaknanda river. 15 perished, and many were injured, leading to their immediate transfer to a hospital for medical assistance. Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar verified that an officer in charge of Pipalkoti was one of the deceased.


ADGP V Murugesan reported that work on a Namami Ganga project is underway, but at the same time, 15 people have tragically lost their lives due to electrocution, including one police sub-inspector and 3 home guard personnel. An inquiry has been established to investigate, and SP Parmendra Doval remarked that a transformer explosion occurred by the Alakandan river. The injured have received medical assistance at the district hospital. People have accused the Energy Corporation of carelessness and are demanding consequences.

Health Minister Dhan Singh has also left for the incident site in Chamoli. He has ordered a judicial inquiry. The Health Minister told that the injured will be brought to Srinagar Hospital by helicopter. Relief rescue work is going on in the incident.
