In the ongoing Uttarakhand receptionist murder case, Pulkit Arya, son of a BJP minister, was arrested after he confessed of killing the 19-year-old victim. The matter came to light when 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari had gone missing six days ago from a Rishikesh-based resort. Earlier on Saturday morning, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescue team recovered Ankita’s body from a canal in Rishikesh.

During investigation, the name of Pulkit Arya emerged as being the “main accused” in the case. Pulkit is reportedly son of BJP minister Vinod Arya. For the unversed, Vinod Arya was the Minister of State in BJP government which was once headed by Trivendra Singh Rawat.

Pulkit was brought into questioning, following which he confessed to having pushed the 19-year-old victim into a canal. The accused confessed that Ankita was pushed after there was an altercation between the two parties.

While the case remains under investigation, the motive of the murder that has been uncovered so far remains this – there was a resistance by Ankita when Pulkit and other accused tried to force her into prostitution. This enraged the accused, who after an altercation, pushed her in the canal.

The other accused involved have been identified as Saurabh Bhaskar, a resort manager, and Ankit. Meanwhile, a resort owned by Pulkit was demolished after his arrest as per state government’s orders.

The Facts of the Matter

In a country of over a billion people, murders unfortunately come dime a dozen. However, when the murder is committed by someone associated with a public servant, it raises questions on the state itself.

In one such incident, the son of a minister from the current ruling party was recently arrested for the murder of a 19-year-old woman, who was employed as a receptionist. The incident was reported from Uttarakhand.
