In a news coming from Uttarakhand, the video of a massive Dehradun-Rishikesh bridge collapsing has shown us the wrath of nature. The bridge paved an important path as it was close to the Dehradun airport, Uttarakhand. Along with the bridge collapsing, the road too caved in an fell into the river flowing below the bridge. So far, no casualties have been reported so far.

Since the onset of the monsoon, reports of roads caving in, flash floods taking lives, and lightning causing deaths across the nation are more common than one would have expected. While states like Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have finally found some respite, states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are still dealing with massive consequences caused due to the monsoon.

Facts of the Matter
In one such instance, the Dehradun-Rishikesh crumbled after incessant rains battered Uttarakhand. The bridge is located near the Rani Pokhari village and is reportedly an old one. Along with the bridge, several vehicles were also damaged. But no casualties have been reported so far.
From the Eyes of the Camera
The entire ordeal of the bridge collapsing was recorded by the by standers and the video footages have gone viral. In the video shared by news platform ANI, one can see the bridge being torn from the middle like a piece of paper with the river flowing below it. On both sides of the bridge, one can see vehicles that are on the edge and almost on the verge of being swallowed by the river.

In a separate video, one could also see a local citizen being fighting hard against gravity and pulling his two-wheeler from slipping away into the river. He first takes the help of a few other locals and then tries to drive the bike away.

Traffic Comes to Halt, SDRF Deployed
As mentioned earlier, casualties have not been reported, but due to the bridge collapsing, traffic has taken a massive hit. According to reports, DM (District Magistrate) R. Rajesh Kumar said that the traffic on the route has come to a complete halt and has been diverted. Further, SDRF (state disaster response force) personnel rushed to the incident spot and are carrying forward the relief operation.
Dehradun Road Caves in After Rainfall
In a similar incident, due to severe rainfall in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, the Maldevta-Sahastradhara Link road’s parts caved in and were swallowed by the river flowing there. Dehradun too was on the receiving end of severe rainfall since the last 2 days and this led to some huge parts of the roads just caving in and falling into the river.
According to reports, the incident was reported in Kheri village. So far, no numbers have been reported in terms of casualty but the Dehradun district administration claims that 2 vehicles were seen flowing in the flooded regions.

Due to the severe rainfall the Tehri-Garhwal authorities said that the parts of the NH-58 have been closed (Tapovan to Maletha). Further, the Rishikesh to Devprayag and Tehri roads and Dehradun to Mussoorie roads have been reported closed as due to the extreme rainfall, the region is witnessing multiple landslides.
