Veteran Indian actor Akhil Mishra, best known for his portrayal of librarian Dubey in the 2009 hit film 3 Idiots, died in a tragic accident on September 21, 2023. He was 67 years old.
Mishra was in the kitchen of his home when he fell off a chair and suffered a serious head injury. His wife, German actress Suzanne Bernert, was away shooting in Hyderabad at the time. Mishra was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.
Prolific Acting Career
Akhil Mishra had a prolific acting career spanning over 30 years in Bollywood and on Indian television. Apart from 3 Idiots, he appeared in many acclaimed films like Gandhi My Father, Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain, and Don among others.
On television, Mishra played memorable roles in shows like Uttaran, Udaan, CID, and Hatim. He was appreciated for his versatility as a character actor.

Married Twice to Fellow Actors
Mishra married twice, both times to fellow actors. His first wife was Manju Mishra who acted with him in his debut film in 1983. After her death in 1997, Mishra married German actress Suzanne Bernert in 2009.
Bernert has appeared in Bollywood films like Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. She also portrayed Sonia Gandhi in the show 7 RCR and movie The Accidental Prime Minister.

Shock and Grief Among Film Fraternity
Mishra’s sudden demise has left his friends and colleagues in the film industry in shock and grief. His 3 Idiots co-star Aamir Khan said he was “saddened” by the tragic news.
Director Vivek Agnihotri, who worked with Mishra in Chocolate, tweeted, “A great actor and and a great human being… You will be missed, Akhil Mishra.”
Mishra’s funeral is expected to take place after his post-mortem reports come in. He will be remembered for his substantial contribution to Indian cinema and television through his acting brilliance.
