Veteran Tamil Art Director Milan Passes Away During Shooting in Azerbaijan

Renowned Tamil film art director Milan Fernandez passed away on Sunday, October 15th 2023 in Azerbaijan while working on Ajith Kumar’s upcoming film Vidaamuyarchi. He was in his early 50s.

Milan was a highly experienced art director in the Tamil film industry, having worked on over 30 films since 2006. He started his career as an assistant to the acclaimed art director Sabu Cyril, working on major films like Anniyan.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Proves Fatal

According to reports, Milan had returned to his hotel after shooting on Saturday and seemed fine. However, on Sunday morning he complained of uneasiness and was sweating profusely. The film’s production team rushed him to a hospital in Azerbaijan.

Sadly, Milan suffered a massive cardiac arrest before reaching the hospital. Ajith Kumar, director Magizh Thirumeni and cinematographer Nirav Shah had also rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news, but Milan passed away before they arrived.

Prolific Career Spanning Over 15 Years

Born in Chennai, Milan had been active in Tamil films since 1999. He first worked as an assistant to Sabu Cyril on acclaimed films like Citizen, Red, Villain and Anniyan.

In 2006, Milan ventured into solo art direction with the film Kalabha Kadhalan. Over his prolific career, he worked as art director on major Tamil films starring top actors like Ajith Kumar, Suriya and Dhanush.

Some of his most popular projects include Billa (2007), Vivegam (2017), Vedalam (2015), Veeram (2014) and Saamy 2 (2018). He shared an excellent working rapport with Ajith over several films.

Body to be Brought Back to Chennai

Milan is survived by his wife and son, who was assisting him in Azerbaijan. The Vidaamuyarchi team is currently coordinating with Indian embassy officials to transport his body back to Chennai.

This will enable Milan’s family, colleagues and admirers to pay their final respects. The sudden demise of the talented art director has sent shockwaves through the Tamil film fraternity. Celebrities and technicians who worked with Milan expressed their condolences on social media.

With his vast experience and keen eye for detail, Milan Fernandez contributed tremendously to the art direction of Tamil cinema over the last 15 years. His death is a huge loss to the industry.
