On Monday night, a 19-year-old named Rajan Rai met with a fatal bike accident in the 1.3 km long Pragati Maidan tunnel in Delhi. Despite the tunnel having safety features like smart fire management system, digitally controlled CCTVs, etc., Rajan Rai was unable to make a distress call due to poor connectivity inside the tunnel, leading to a delay in emergency services reaching the scene. As a result, he sustained serious head injuries and died during treatment at Lady Hardinge Medical College. In response to the tragedy, the victim’s family is taking legal action, citing the inadequate connectivity inside the tunnel as the cause of the delay which could have saved their loved one’s life.
