Extreme weather continues to plague Europe and the rest of the world, with the latest incident occurring in Bardonecchia, Italy. Unpredicted floodwaters from the Merdovine River wreaked havoc on the town, leaving it entirely submerged in mud.

A stunning video revealed the town’s plight, captivated by the unexpected mudslide and the river’s ferocious surge through its streets. Locals managed to narrowly avoid the torrent of water, mud, and debris that swept away even trees.

Alberto Cirio, the regional governor of Piedmont, stated in a Facebook post

I signed the request for a state of emergency for the events that affected #Bardonecchia last night. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but from today’s inspections there emerges extensive damage to infrastructure, public buildings especially the State Police barracks made completely inaccessible, private buildings and vehicles.

The Civil Protection machine is at work, together with the Municipality, to restore safety conditions.

My thanks go to the almost 200 volunteers who, along with the Firefighters, are engaged and will continue the operations in the coming days
