In a widely shared video, a Japanese woman was seen being harassed and manhandled on the pretext of Holi celebrations in Delhi. After the video of the shameful incident went viral, 3 people, including a minor, were held for their shameful and atrocious behaviour. The incident was reported from Delhi’s Paharganj area, and the video was first shared by the woman herself, who went to Bangladesh in the wake of the incident.
The video captured the uncomfortable foreigner being smeared with colors and having an egg smashed on her head. The Japanese woman appears to be visibly uncomfortable, with a bunch of youths using Holi as a pretext to violate her physical boundaries. While she can be heard saying “bye bye,” she chose to go to Bangladesh, instead of registering a complaint or contact either the Delhi Police or her country’s embassy.
Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal issued a notice to the Delhi Police to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to justice. Further, the National Commission for Women also took notice of the incident and asked the police to register an FIR.
The Delhi Police have initiated action under the Delhi Police Act against the individuals who were arrested in connection with the incident.
The Facts of the Matter
