In a dramatic video gone viral, a plane with a newborn baby and 5 others onboard in Brazil, was seen using a parachute to land safely after the plane’s engine failed. The single-engine Cirrus SR22 suffered engine failure shortly after taking off from Pampulha Airport in Belo Horizonte, in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais.
With no power to rely on, the pilot had to think fast and timely activated the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) – a whole-plane recovery system that has saved an impressive 249 lives so far. The Cirrus Owners & Pilots Association reported that the pilot had reported loss of engine power during cruise, attempted to return to the airport, but realized that there was insufficient glide range and therefore deployed the CAPS system. The result was nothing short of miraculous.
In a video posted by Aeroin, the small plane can be seen floating over Sabará before bouncing after hitting the ground. However, despite the dramatic ordeal, everyone on board emerged from the aircraft conscious, oriented, and without any apparent injuries,
The Cirrus pilots website reports that this parachute deployment was the 122nd save, with a total of 249 people surviving emergencies using the system.
The aircraft, manufactured in 2022, was operated by Volare Equipamentos Aéreos.
The Facts of the Matter
In a heart-stopping moment high in the skies over Brazil, the engine of a small plane suddenly cut out, leaving its six passengers, including a 3-day-old newborn, at the mercy of gravity. With no power and limited options, disaster seemed inevitable – until a miraculous lifesaving system kicked into action.
In a breathtaking feat of technology, the pilot deployed an onboard parachute, and the plane landed on the ground with a thud, somehow averting what could have been a deadly tragedy. This is the incredible story of a moment of terror transformed into one of hope, thanks to quick thinking and state-of-the-art engineering.

Audio Transcript Gives Account of Incident
In a dramatic audio report that has since gone viral on social media, the pilot can be heard calmly describing how the engine suddenly lost power, dropping from 80% to 30% and causing severe vibrations.
Desperately trying to regain control, the pilot attempted to restart the fuel pump and switch fuel supply between the tanks, but to no avail. With no other options, the pilot made a harrowing decision to deploy the emergency parachute, which gently lowered the aircraft to the ground in a mountainous region.
The fate of all on board hung in the balance, but miraculously, no one was injured. As the landing spot was a rough terrain, the rescue helicopter of the Minas Gerais fire department could not land, and the passengers left to safety on foot.
