In a recently gone viral video, a massive landslide in Jammu & Kashmir was shown wreaking havoc, disrupting the congested traffic over the National Highway. According to a Hindustan Times report, an army vehicle was damaged due to the stones and boulders sliding from a hilock near the T-5 tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway earlier on Sunday. According to reports, the landslide was triggered due to incessant rainfall.
The Jammu-Srinagar national highway, a crucial lifeline linking the valley with the rest of the country, was rocked by a massive landslide that sent shooting stones and boulders cascading down its slopes.
In a terrifying display of nature’s power, huge rocks hurtled towards the ground with incredible force, flinging up clouds of dust and debris as they crashed into the earth. The entire ordeal was caught on video, visuals of which are going viral.
Despite the ferocity of the landslide, no casualties were reported, and all those caught up in the maelstrom escaped unscathed.
Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mussarat Islam called for urgent action to protect the vulnerable zone and prevent future disasters, urging the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to take immediate action to safeguard the lives of those who rely on the highway.

Landslides are one of the most destructive natural disasters, capable of wreaking havoc on communities and infrastructure alike. Videos Show Wrath of Nature
The video footage shows large boulders and stones hurtling down the slopes, crashing onto the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and blocking it completely. In one of the videos gone viral, locals sitting in the cars can be seen trying to take a panicked U-turn as the boulders from the mountain above plummet down as if being shot from a catapult. As stones and boulders, large and small, plummet down the hillock, the region is filled with dust and debris.

Landslide Causes Magic Traffic Snarl
The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway witnessed a major disruption in traffic on Saturday, following overnight rains that triggered landslides in Rampari, Sherbibi area of Banihal, and Mehar-Cafeteria stretch of Ramban.
The highway was blocked at around 2 am, causing considerable delays and inconvenience to travelers. However, with the improvement of weather and clearing of the landslides, traffic was eventually restored by Saturday afternoon.
Highway Blocked for Over 7 Hours
Traffic officials confirmed that the highway was blocked for a total of seven hours and 44 minutes, with landslides and shooting stones being the primary cause. Despite the challenges posed by the slippery road conditions, the road executing agencies worked diligently to clear the landslides and ensure that the traffic flow resumed as soon as possible.

J&K Rocked by Multiple Landslides in 2 Weeks
In a span of just two weeks, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been struck by multiple landslides, creating chaos and inconvenience for commuters. The latest landslide has stranded hundreds of people on the highway, just like the previous one which lasted nearly 30 hours.
Adding to the distress, two ambulances carrying dead bodies were also stuck due to the landslide.
