A viral video of a UK co-pilot loading bags on a plane after a 30-hour long delay at the Manchester airport has made netizens call the pilot a hero. The incident was brought to the fore after a passenger on the plane, identified as Jenny Cook, took to Twitter and asked her travel agency TUI to give the pilot an ‘excellence’ award for his actions.

Taking to Twitter, Jenny shared a tweet which read – “Please RT @TUIUK @TUIGroup can we get Simon the co-pilot of the TOM2744 flying from Manchester on 30th May an excellence award? He is out on the tarmac in the rain helping to load the bags to try and get us on our way after 30 hours delay so far”.

In the same tweet, the Jenny also attached a video with the above-mentioned caption which showed the pilot joining forces with a single-baggage handler, and loading heavy luggage under the stormy Manchester sky.

The co-pilot, identified as Simon, was immediately lauded by the netizens for going above and beyond his normal duties. The flight in question, was reportedly flying to Kos earlier on Saturday, May 28. Before it could fly, the plane faced a long 4-hour wait period to get through the security as “pilot wasn’t available”.

The Facts of the Matter

Not all heroes wear cape and fly in sky, some wear high-visibility vests and fly planes in skies. On Twitter, co-pilot Simon Ainscough received lauds from unknown netizens who applauded him for his grand gesture of going above the scope of his profession, and making sure that a long delay ends as soon as it can.

Co-Pilot Decides to Give Helping Hand

The incident was brought to light after a passenger of TUI flight took to Twitter and shared video of a pilot, donned in high-visibility jacket, joining forces with a lone baggage handler and helping him put baggage in the airplane. The co-pilot decided to help a lending hand to the baggage handler after the flight had gone through a long 30-hour delay at the Manchester Airport.

“Get him an excellence award”

24 Hour Delay Extended to Further Delay

Jenny Cook spoke to The Independent, and reported how their flight was delayed for 24 hours initially. She added that after the passengers boarded the flight after a day-long delay, they were asked to wait again as their bags were not yet loaded in the aircraft.

She said that the passengers were assured that the staff is doing everything possible to get the flight up and flying. The pilot also told passengers that his co-pilot was loading bags. This was when the passengers looked out of their windows.

Passengers Cheered for Co-Pilot

Jenny also shared how after Simon entered the flight, the passengers cheered for him. Following the incident, Manchester Airport issued a statement in which it claimed that the ground services at the airport are “experiencing temporary staff shortages, in common with other travel companies”.
