In the video, the woman can be heard arguing with the conductor, asserting that she is a central government employee from Karnataka. She stated that her residence address is listed on her government ID card, which states she lives in Karnataka, and demanded that the provision be granted citing otherwise she would take action against them.
The woman traveling on the Banashankari bus route encountered other passengers who demanded that she show ID with a Karnataka residential address in order to qualify for the free bus service provided through the Shakti scheme. This resulted in a heated argument amongst those on the bus.
People posted numerous remarks on the Twitter video condemning the woman’s actions.
“Central govt employee fighting for a mere bus fare…lots of example out there. Showing their govt ID just to save a mere parking fee or toll tax. These schemes should have been for the poor who couldn’t afford but people use their official post to grab these benefits,” one user wrote.
“She would have spent more in data charges recording the incident than she saved not paying for the ticket,” another user wrote.
Karnataka government has implemented the Shakti scheme, which enables female residents of the state to use ordinary state-run government buses free of charge. To avail the free service, Aadhaar card, Driving License, Voter ID, Passport, or some other form of government-recognized identification must be presented.
