A viral video showing an elderly man wincing in pain after Rajat Patidar’s 102m six hit him on his head is making rounds of social media. The jaw-clenching moment transpired earlier on Friday as the Punjab Kings played Royal Challengers Bangalore during the last leg of the Tata IPL 2022. During the 9th over of the second inning, as RCB was made to chase a total of over 200, swashbuckling Rajat Patidar was on strike.
The right-handed batter received a ball on the slot and chose to deposit it in the stands at the long-on region. While the ball was timed impeccably and just the right kind of strength was used to give it the lofty height it received, it all ended with a massive shock.
The camera panned towards the ball and cut straight to the umpire raising his arms to signal a maximum. In a few moments however, the replay showed a bald elderly man wincing in pain. A woman, who presumably is the man’s relative, can be seen compressing his head with a handkerchief.
Meanwhile, PBKS once again triumphed over RCB and has kept its hope of making it into the playoffs alive.
The Facts of the Matter
Huge sixes, magnificent boundaries, and nail-biting finishes, these are just some of the ingredients of the Indian Premiere League. The cricketing tournament has entertained masses for over a decade now, and has been credited to have opened doors for some talented cricketers.
The new edition of the tournament – Tata IPL 2022 – has almost crossed its halfway mark and is in the final leg. As playoffs come nearer and nearer, teams are throwing all that they have into the games and in the end, it’s the audience who gets to enjoy some delicious nail-biting games.
Unlucky Elderly Man Receives Blow on Head
Earlier on Friday however, a cricket fan got more than what he bargained when a ball hit straight him in his head. The incident transpired when Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers were playing, with the latter on the field, chasing a total of 210.
Batter Rajat Patidar, who has 163 runs so far in his 5 innings, was on the strike against PBKS baller Harpreet Brar. As his team had to chase down a mammoth total, Patidar decided to turn the ante up and decided to unleash against spin attack.
How Rajat Patidar Hit the 102m Six
He received just the right ball on the slot and hit it on the long-on region for a massive 102m six. While Patidar himself looked shocked at the height the ball went to, it was the visuals that followed that shocked most viewers of the game.
As it turned out, an elderly man sitting in the long-on section of the crowd, was seen wincing in pain and rubbing his head. A lady, who presumably appeared to be his relative, also tried to check in on him.

PBKS Dominates, Virat Kohli Still In Search of Form
Meanwhile, PBKS dominated the game against RCB for the most part. They put a massive total of 209, courtesy Liam Livingston’s quickfire 70 off 42 and Jonny Bairstow’s 66 of just 29.
Chasing 210, RCB once again fell into the curse of not having enough partnerships. Virat Kohli once again looked dismayed at his dismissal at just 20. Rajat Patidar, who looked to be in a sublime touch, was sent to the dressing room after playing a 26 off 21 inning.
Glenn Maxwell (35), Faf du Plessis (10), and Mahipal Lomror (6), didn’t disturb the scoreboard much. Dinesh Karthik, who has been playing at an astonishing strike rate of over 200, also failed and was dismissed at 11 off 11.
