In a blood-curdling incident, a warden of a Hyderabad-based boys hostel was recently arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting 7 minor students. The accused, a 35-year-old unmarried man identified as Murram Kirshna, had joined a boys hostel belonging to a private school about a month ago.

During his tenure as a warden, the accused forced minors to watch pornographic content. He also used allegedly slept next to students who used to sleep alone, and then used to touch them inappropriately on a frequent basis.

The matter came to the fore after some minor boys in the hostel told their parents about the ordeal. The parents had then turned to the Hayathnagar police and a probe was initiated in the matter. Meanwhile, the accused had fled the spot and a massive manhunt was kicked off and the accused was subsequently arrested.

The accused was produced before a magistrate and is currently in police custody. The accused is booked under seven POCSO Act cases and multiple cases with section 506 (intimidation) filed against him.

Meanwhile, the police are planning to initiate workshops to raise awareness on good and bad touch to make sure children can report harassment cases promptly. The victims of the incident will be sent to psychologist to deal with the trauma they were subjected to.

The Facts of the Matter

According to a Child Rights and You report, over 15 crimes against children were committed in Telangana state every day in 2021. As per the National Crime Records Bureau’s Crime in India report, a total of 5,667 crimes were reported in Telangana in 2021, which was a horrifying 34.9% more than 2020 where 4,200 cases were registered.

Earlier last week, another shocking incident of crimes against minor was reported from Telangana capital Hyderabad. In Hyderabad, a boys hostel warden was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing 7 minor students.

Accused a 35-year-old Unmarried Man

The accused, a 35-year-old unmarried man, was arrested earlier on Sunday, after the police registered a case against him based on complaints raised by multiple students. The students alleged him of inappropriate touches, and sexual harassment.

Reportedly, the accused, identified as Murram Krishna had joined a boys hostel of a private school about a month ago. The accused resided in the same hostel, and was in the habit of inappropriately approaching and forcing minor students.

The Trauma Minors were Subjected to

The accused used to force students to watch pornographic content on his phone. He also allegedly crept next to students who used to sleep alone and slept beside them. He sexually forced himself on the students.

In their complaint to the Hayathnagar police, the minors also alleged that the accused would enter their bathrooms as they were having a bath. An Indian Express report quoted the Rachakonda police’s note which read – “In this manner, the accused harassed seven minor students in the same hostel by putting them in fear and threatened them not to reveal the matter to anyone”.

Minors Come Forward, Police Approaches Police

The police further added that due to the repeated inappropriate actions by the accused, the minor victims felt embarrassed and victimized. Some minors confronted their parents, who in turn approached the Hayathnagar police.

Accused Nabbed

After seven cases were filed against him under sections pertaining to the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act, the accused had reportedly fled from the area. The police had launched a city-wide manhunt to nab him and earlier on Sunday, the accused was arrested.

The accused was produced before the magistrate, and is currently in custody. Meanwhile, police mentioned that the victims of the harassment are being sent to psychologist so that they can learn to live with the trauma they were subjected to.
