In a shocking incident, a gun-armed man took as many as 70 students in a Bengal school room hostage, with the entire incident caught on cam. What followed was a brave cop’s use of wit and strength to subdue the attacker and apprehend him. The incident took place earlier on Wednesday, and occurred in Muchiya Chandramohan High School in West Bengal’s Malda.

Chaos erupted when a gun-wielding man stormed into a classroom filled with students, threatening to kill them and their teacher. As fear gripped the teachers and students, the school administration quickly contacted the police, who arrived at the scene led by Superintendent of Police Pradeep Kumar Yadav.

However, the situation was far from over, as the man, identified as Dev Ballav, threatened to shoot anyone in a police uniform who approached him. With tension mounting and the clock ticking, Deputy Superintendent of Police Azharuddin Khan came up with a daring plan to save the children.

Azharuddin shed his police uniform and borrowed clothes from a civilian on the premises. Disguised as a reporter, he entered the classroom and began asking Ballav questions, all while recording the conversation on his mobile phone. The brave cop managed to keep Ballav talking, eventually overpowering him with the help of another sub-inspector and pinning him to the ground.

The Facts of the Matter

The Muchiya Chandramohan High School in West Bengal’s Malda was the scene of a terrifying incident that unfolded on a seemingly normal Wednesday afternoon.

The school was filled with at least 70 Class 7 students, all of whom were focused on their studies, when suddenly a gun-wielding man burst into the classroom. Holding a pistol in one hand and a piece of paper in the other, the intruder began shouting at the students, threatening to kill them and their teacher.

Accused Points Weapon on Students, Cops Alerted

As the students and teachers cowered in fear, the man identified as Dev Ballav, continued to brandish his weapon, making it clear that he was not afraid to use it. The school administration acted swiftly, contacting the police as soon as they could. But even as they waited for help to arrive, the situation remained precarious, with Ballav warning that he would shoot anyone in a police uniform who came near him.

Cop Comes with Witty Plan

The police arrived on the scene quickly, led by Superintendent of Police Pradeep Kumar Yadav, but they found themselves in a tense standoff with the armed man. As they tried to negotiate with him, one officer came up with a daring plan that would ultimately save the day.

‘Reporter’ Distracts Attacker

Deputy Superintendent of Police Azharuddin Khan, a resident of Kolkata currently posted in Malda district, quickly shed his police uniform and borrowed clothes from a civilian who was on the school premises. Disguised as a reporter, Azharuddin made his way into the classroom, where Ballav was still holding the students hostage at gunpoint.

Arrest Made

With his mobile phone recording the conversation, Azharuddin began questioning Ballav, distracting him from his threats and keeping him talking. Even as he did so, Azharuddin remained alert and ready to act, knowing that one false move could result in tragedy.

Azharuddin saw his opportunity and moved quickly, overpowering Ballav and pinning him to the ground with the help of another sub-inspector.

Man’s Wife, Son Missing Since Year

The perpetrator, Dev Ballav, had a personal motive driving his actions. He alleged that his wife and son had gone missing a year ago, and he wanted to draw attention to their disappearance. He believed that by threatening the lives of innocent children and their teacher, he could force the administration to pay heed to his situation.
