The CISF recently apologized to Sudhaa Chandran for having her prosthetic limb removed at airport. “We are extremely sorry”, stated the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) in the apology issued on Twitter. The security agency also claimed that it would sensitize its personnel so that Chandran or another passenger who has faced such issue in the past will not continue doing so.

The CISF’s apology came hours after television actress and classical dancer Sudhaa Chandran took to her Instagram to share her plight. Addressing PM Modi, Chandran said that she is hurt that she is asked to remove her prosthetic limb every time on an airport.

Television actress Sudhaa Chandran is known by several people to play characters of multiple ranges – from evil antagonist, to loving mother. However, many do not know that she has been a Bharatnatyam dancer all her life and has received accolades for the same. Moreover, lesser people know that she has achieved all her feats while having just one real limb and one prosthetic limb.

The classical dancer however has had stressful encounters at airport due to her prosthetic limb. At airports, the actress has been repeatedly asked to remove her prosthetic limb for security purposes. Recently, Chandran made an appeal to Prime Minister Modi and shed the light on the ordeal she has faced.

What Made Sudhaa Chandran Appeal to PM?

Taking to Instagram, Chandran said in a video message – “Good evening, this is a very personal note that I want to tell to our dear Shree Modi Ji. This is an appeal to the central government and the state government. I am Sudhaa Chandran, an actress and dancer by profession, who has danced with an artificial limb and created history and made my country feel very proud of me.”

She further added, “But every time that I go on my professional visits, each time, I am stopped at the airport and when I request them at the security, to the CISF officers that please do an ETD test for my artificial limb, they still want me to remove my artificial limb and show it to them.”

Sudhaa Chandran Suggests what CISF Can Do, Receives Support

The actress also gave a suggestion to the authorities that they got issue a card to people with similar issues, much like a card is issued to a senior citizen.

Sudhaa Chandran received a massive support on Instagram with news anchor Charul Malik and actor Karanvir Bohra commenting in support.

“Only Under Exceptional Circumstances”: CISF Apologizes to Chandran

On the whole matter, CISF issued an apology on Twitter. The CISF’s apology read, “We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused to Ms. Sudhaa Chandran. As per protocol, prosthetics are to be removed for security checks only under exceptional circumstances.”

CISF Personnel To Be Examined for Asking Chandran to Remove Limb

In the next tweet, CISF also claimed that it would look into the personnel that asked Chandran to remove her limb, and further sensitize their employees for future. “We will examine why the lady personnel concerned requested Ms. Sudhaa Chandran to remove the prosthetics. We assure Ms. Sudhaa Chandran that all our personnel will be sensitised again on the protocols so that no inconvenience is caused to travelling passengers.”
