Earlier on Friday, Hollywood superstar Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a term which fans were quick to Google to know more about what is frontotemporal dementia. The development came after almost a year when Bruce was diagnosed with aphasia. Bruce’s daughter took to her social media, to give the Die Hard actor’s fans most recent health update.
“Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD),” the statement read, adding how communication challenge is are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. “While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,” Bruce’s daughter Rumer wrote.
“As a family, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for the outpouring of love and compassion for Bruce over the past ten months. Your generosity of spirit has been overwhelming, and we are tremendously grateful for it. For your kindness, and because we know you love Bruce as much as we do, we wanted to give you an update,” the statement further read.
FTD is a group of brain disorders characterized by deteriorating changes in a patient’s behaviour, personality, and communication. The disorder affects a patient’s frontal and temporal brain lobes.
The Facts of the Matter
Family of Hollywood superstar Bruce Willis issued a health update on Thursday about the actor’s ailing health. The family in its statement confirmed that the 67-year-old actor’s condition has worsened, and the family has a clearer diagnosis about his condition. Willis is suffering from frontotemporal dementia (FTD), an umbrella term for a brain disorders that affects a person’s frontal or temporal lobes.
Their update comes almost a year after the family confirmed that Willis has decided to step away from any further acting projects, owing to his initial diagnosis of aphasia.

Bruce’s Family Gives Heartbreaking Update
On Thursday, Bruce’s family, including his wife and actor Demi Moore, took to Instagram and issued a statement regarding Bruce’s diagnosis. “Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD).”
“Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,” the statement further read.
Family Expresses Graditude
“Bruce has always found joy in life – and has helped everyone he knows to do the same. It has meant the world to see that sense of care echoed back to him and to all of us. We have been so moved by the love you have all shared for our dear husband, father, and friend during this difficult time. Your continued compassion, understanding, and respect will enable us to help Bruce live as full a life as possible,” the statement shared on The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration’s website further read.

Sylvester Stallone Opened Up About Willis’ Health
Earlier in November 2022, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce’s co-actor in several action films, also gave an update on the actor’s health. “Bruce is going through some really, really difficult times. So he’s been sort of incommunicado. That kills me. It’s so sad.”
What is Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD)?
As per Mayo Clinic, “Frontotemporal dementia is an umbrella term for a group of brain disorders that primarily affect the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. These areas of the brain are generally associated with personality, behavior and language.”
The symptoms of the disorders range from behavioral changes such as inappropriate social behaviour, lack of empathy, judgement and interest, and speech and language changes, such as difficulty in understanding written or spoken language, making sentences, and more.
