In an incident that can be labelled as “what the flock”, a man who was serving 15 years for murder, tried to escape prison by disguising as a sheep!

We have often heard of stories where a wolf disguises himself in sheep’s clothing. However, in a real-life incident, a murderer who was serving time in jail, literally disguised himself in sheep’s clothing. Like the story of wolf in sheep’s clothing, the man also wanted to avoid getting caught. However, his novel plan failed, and he was nabbed. Further authorities also ordered disciplinary action against the man.

The man in question who decided to escape prison using sheep was identified as José Luis Callisaya Diaz. José Luis Callisaya Diaz was serving jail time in the Chonchocoro, a maximum-security prison in Bolivia. Earlier last month, Dias decided to make a run for it, and chose a novel idea to execute his escape.

He wore a sheep-skin jacket in a desperate bid to disguise himself as a sheep, and tried to “blend in” the nearby fields which were known for having a lot of cattle. The man’s plan worked, of course temporarily, when he escaped the jail on February 4 and made his way crawling onto the grassland near the jail.

The Facts of the Matter

In a desperate yet audacious bid to escape from a maximum-security prison in Bolivia, an inmate tried to pull the wool over the eyes of the authorities. The inmate donned a sheepskin jacket and crawled through nearby fields like cattle. However, his plan was not as great as he thought, and he was caught red-handed, or should we say, red-hoofed. The incident shows that no matter how hard we try, we can’t pull wool over the authorities’ eyes.

Accused was Serving Time in Maximum Security Facility

The man in question was identified as José Luis Callisaya Diaz. Dias was reportedly serving 15 year sentence in San Pedro de Chonchocoro Penitentiary Center. For the unversed, the San Pedro de Chonchocoro Penitentiary Center is a maximum-security center and the largest prison in Bolivia. The prison is known for being a society in itself with inmates who can interact with families and can even take up jobs.

Man Decides To Escape From Prison

The correctional ways of the prison weren’t quite working its charm on Diaz, who decided to escape from prison. Earlier on February 4, the murderer inmate wore a sheep-skinned jacket and decided to crawl out of the prison to somehow be able to “blend in” with the cattle.

The “Sheepish” Plan

Known as “El Arana”, the sheep fleece coat-wearing inmate somehow snuck past the security, and tried to escape the prison. Meanwhile, security was quick to notice that Diaz was not in his cell. Soon, the accused was caught red-handed and was also captured in pictures which showed his sheep-skin jacket.

Jail Authorities Issue Statement

Meanwhile, director of the Penitentiary Regime, Juan Carlos Limpias issued a statement in the matter which read – “Prison security police officers from the San Pedro de Chonchocoro Penitentiary Center prevented the escape of prisoner José Luis Callisaya Diaz (alias El Araña), who took advantage of the inclement weather to try to escape through one of the walls of the prison external perimeter of the prison.”
