On Wednesday, filmmaker and celebrity-interview host Karan Johar announced that Koffee With Karan won’t be returning to the screens after six seasons of “making impact” and finding “place in pop-culture history”. Johar made the announcement by sharing the statement on Instagram.

Heartbroken fans were left devastated following the shocking announcement with many taking to the comments section and calling it “end of an era”. The news comes after rumour mills produced fresh reports of new season of Koffee with Karan, with many reports speculating newly-wed couple Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor will be the first guests.

“And so, it is with a heavy heart that I announce that Koffee With Karan will not be returning,” an excerpt of the announcement post read whose caption read, “Important announcement”.

For the unversed, Koffee With Karan first aired back in November 2004 and holds the record of the second-longest running talk show in India. Its final season concluded in March 2019. Celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and more have graced the show.

Karan Johar’s Koffee with Karan is loved by fans, and consumed even by its critics for simple guilty-pleasure viewing. From the risqué confessions, to thinly veiled juicy accusations, to banter between guests, to rapid fire round, the show had it all, and then some. So, it must not surprise anyone that for the longest time Koffee with Karan was one of the most viewed talk-show shows in India.

Karan Johar Drops Shocking Announcement

Fans of the show were heartbroken, and critics of the show were equally shocked to know receive a bombshell announcement about Koffee with Karan today. On Wednesday, Koffee With Karan host Karan Johar took to Instagram and announced that the show won’t be returning to the small-screens.

“Hello, Koffee With Karan has been a part of my life, and yours, for 6 seasons now. I’d like to think we’ve made an impact and even found our place in pop culture history. And so, it is with a heavy heart that I announce that Koffee with Karan will not be returning,” the brief and shocking statement read.

Bhumi Pednekar, Mostly Sane & Others React

Fans of the show and celebrities alike took to the comments section of the post and expressed their shock and dismay at the announcement. “End of an era”, is what rapper Raja Kumari commented. Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar, influencer MostlySane aka Prajakta Kohli and other high-profile celebs also took to the comments section and dropped ‘heartbreak’ emojis.

First Aired in 2004, SRK & Kajol were First Guests

Koffee With Karan was first aired in November 2004 with Karan Johar’s frequent collaborators Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as the first guests. Over the span of the decade and half, the show saw celebrities like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranbeer Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, and others gracing the “couch”.
