The Goa Police have arrested two women from Gujarat and their male accomplice for allegedly filing false rape complaints to extort money from men. The police investigation has revealed that the accused were involved in multiple fake rape complaint cases in Goa and Gujarat.
Details of the Arrests
- The two women and the man were arrested in Bhavnagar, Gujarat on Monday based on a complaint filed by a man from Gujarat.
- The complainant alleged that the women befriended him with the intention of threatening him and filing a fake rape case for extortion.
- One of the women had filed a rape complaint in Goa’s Colvale area on August 23 leading to the arrest of a man.
- During investigation, police received a complaint from a Pune businessman alleging he was blackmailed by the women to pay ₹2 lakh by threatening to file a false rape case against him.

Modus Operandi
- According to Superintendent of Police (North) Nidhin Valsan, the accused women had filed multiple rape complaints in Goa and Gujarat against different persons as part of an extortion racket.
- In one rape case filed in Gujarat, one of the accused women was a witness, police said.
- The women would develop friendships with men and then threaten to file fake rape cases unless they received money.

Police Action
- Goa Police are obtaining details of rape cases filed by the accused women from police stations in Goa and Gujarat.
- An offence has been registered against the accused under sections 386 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code.
- Further investigation into the extortion racket is underway.
The proactive action by Goa Police has exposed the extortion racket being run by falsely accusing men of rape. It remains to be seen if more victims come forward after the arrests.
