Recent news resurfaced on the internet, and it’s about the world’s costliest Mango, which is cultivated by a couple in Madhya Pradesh. Also, the mango is guarded by 6 dogs and 4 keepers. Take a look at what is so special about this Mango.

About the Mango’s cultivation

Two years ago, a couple from MP Rani and Sankalp Parihar planted two mango saplings. Surprisingly, the two mango saplings developed and bore into unusual ruby-coloured mangoes, the Japanese Miyazaki.

Miyazaki mangoes are said to be one of the most expensive breeds of mangoes in the world. Also known as an ‘egg of the sun’, last year, the Miyazaki mangoes sold at ₹2.70 lakh per kilogram in the international market.

Why did they give extra security to the trees?

According to the farmer couple, last year, some thieves broke into their orchards and stole the mangoes once it became locally known that they have started growing a breed of rare fruit. Luckily, the couple managed two protect two trees.

In the result, the couple appointed four guards and six dogs to protect the rare trees and seven mangoes.

How the cultivation of Mangoes started?

They started growing this rare variety of mango two years back, the owner Parihar said that when he was on his way to Chennai to buy some saplings when he met a man on a train, who offered him what later turned out to be Miyazaki.

He said that-

“He offered these saplings to me and asked to take care of these plants like our babies. We planted in the orchard without knowing what variety of mangoes it will produce.”

As for now, Sankalp has named the mangoes Damini, after the name of his mother. In a recent interview Parihar told that-

“Later, we researched about this variety and found the real name. But it is still Damini for me.”

Sankalp’s wife Rani said variety of people has shown interest to buy Miyazaki mangoes. She said a Mumbai-based jeweler is ready to pay ₹21,000 for a mango. But, the couple has decided not to sell the mangoes to anyone yet, and instead they would grow them and collect the harvest for further season too.

The mangoes are grown in Japan’s Miyazaki city. The mango is over 350 grams in weight and has a 15% or higher sugar content which makes it sweeter than normal mangoes.

These mangoes are rich in antioxidants and contain beta-carotene and folic acid, which is great for people that need help with tired eyes and swollen eyes.

They are grown during the peak harvest season between April and August.
