There’s a common phrase in English language – ‘Aim for the moon, and if you may miss, you may land upon the stars’. The phrase is that one should aim as high as they can. And if they can’t achieve it, they would still be somewhere better than they were.
Anil Bosak not only landed upon the moon, but he also got the star that he deserves.
First, with his hard work and persistence, he graduated from the most prestigious engineering institutes of India IIT.
And then, he cleared the UPSC exam as well. These are the facts of the matter.

The Facts of the Matter
In 2020, 10,40,060 candidates applied for the examination, out of whom 4,82,770 appeared for the UPSC exam. Among these students, only 761 candidates cleared the exam. This puts the UPSC clearing rate of students at a jaw dropping 0.001%.
Similarly, lakhs of students apply for the IIT-JEE exams among whom only a few thousands are then short listed.
On a statistical level, Bihar’s Anil Bosak is an anomaly – a 0.1% of the population who cleared both IIT-JEE and then UPSC. More importantly, his story is truly an inspiring one as he and his family fought against odds to make it through.

Meet Anil Bosak – Kishangunj’s New Trailblazer
The small district of Kishangunj, Bihar is celebrating in unison for Anil Bosak, who hails from the small town, cleared the UPSC exam and achieved All India Rank 45. Earlier, Anil had also cleared IIT-JEE and completed his graduation from IIT Delhi in 2018.
However, he wanted to fulfill his dream of serving his nation and getting a job in the civil services. After multiple attempts (3 to be precise), he cleared the exam and made his family and town proud.
Anil’s Father Made Living By Selling Clothes on Bicycle
What makes Anil’s story all the more inspiring is that his father cycles around the town and sells clothes on the bicycle. An NDTV report quoted his father, Mr. Binod Bosak saying, “He first qualified for the IIT. We were very happy. I thought now he will work. But he said he will prepare for the UPSC. His teacher also helped him a lot, he even offered to help monetarily.”
Further, Mr. Bosak got emotional and said that the achievement was truly a dream as he himself is not an educated man. “It was very difficult. I think this is a dream. I am not educated,” said his father.

“Great Moment for Entire District”: Anil’s Brother
Anil’s brother Babul also shared his father’s joy and said that earlier last year, Anil had appeared in the exam and got 616 rank. He then added, “He said he will appear again in the test. And he got 45th rank this time. We are surprised that he got this far. This is a great moment for the entire district.”
