A YouTuber pilot, identified as Trevor Jacob, is now facing 20 years in jail for his dubious plan of getting more views on his channel. In order to boost views and get sponsorship deal, the pilot deliberately crashed a plane. The video in question showed Jacob leaping out of the plane in panic and opening a parachute to save himself.
29-year-old Jacob, who is also a former Olympic snowboarder, was flying a plane over Forest back in November 2021. His subsequent YouTube video, titled “I Crashed My Plane,” sent shockwaves across the internet and garnered a staggering 2.97 million views.
The video showed when Jacob’s plane experienced a sudden engine failure. Panicking and using expletive language, he grappled with the dire situation before ultimately leaping out of the aircraft with a parachute, all while documenting his adrenaline-fueled descent using a selfie stick.
Initially claiming ignorance about the wreckage’s whereabouts, he collaborated with a friend to secretly retrieve the plane using a helicopter. The aircraft was later concealed within a hangar at Lompoc City Airport, only to be disassembled and its parts discarded in trash bins, evading investigators’ scrutiny.
The former Olympian shamelessly admitted to authorities that his primary goal was to profit from the sensational video of the crash. After viewers on YouTube found Jacob’s version sketchy, and investigation proved them right.

The incident unfolded in November 2021 when Jacob, known for his daredevil stunts, took to the skies above the picturesque Los Padres National Forest. With his single-propeller plane soaring through the air, he captured every moment on camera, documenting what seemed to be a terrifying disaster.

In the dramatic 12-minute video, Jacob embarked on his ill-fated journey from Lompoc City Airport, setting his sights on Mammoth Lakes. As the plane cruised over a majestic mountain range, he presented a plastic bag containing the ashes of his deceased friend.
The heart-stopping footage captures the horrifying moment when the plane’s propeller ominously grinds to a halt. Jacob’s panic is palpable as he utters expletives, announcing an “engine out” emergency. Acting swiftly, he flings open the plane door and leaps out.

Aviation Observers Remain Suspicious
Aviation enthusiasts and fellow YouTubers initially expressed skepticism regarding Jacob’s account. They noted suspicious details, such as his pre-unlocking of the plane door before the alleged engine failure, and his peculiar choice to wear a skydiving parachute—a rarity for small aircraft pilots.
During investigation it was revealed that Jacob brazenly returned to the crash site to retrieve the crucial footage, defying all logical reason. However, when questioned about the wreckage’s whereabouts, he claimed ignorance.

Truth Surfaces
The truth soon emerged, as Jacob was found guilty of dismantling the evidence.
In the aftermath of the investigation, the Federal Aviation Administration revoked the 29-year-old’s pilot certificate in April 2022.
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice in US also tightened its grip around YouTuber, and eventually Daniel pleaded guilty of destruction and concealment of evidence, with intent to obstruct an investigation.
He also admitted to doing all this, simply to boost views for his YouTube channel. Further, the video in question was sponsored by a wallet, and Jacob committed the shocking action, in a desperate bid to make money.
