3 Cops have been killed and 11 police personnel stand injured in a terror attack in Kashmir on Monday night. 2 policemen died on the spot while another one of them succumbed to the injuries at the hospital on Tuesday morning. As per the latest update, two militants involved in the attack have been neutralized by J&K Police, earlier this morning.
The area has been cordoned off and all affected have been taken to various hospitals.
Terrorists resorted to heavy firing in a highly secured area where multiple police camps of various security forces are housed.
The Details about the Terrorist Attack
According to reports, the attack was carried out by three militants of “Kashmir Tigers”, which is said to be an “offshoot” of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Muhammed terrorists, who opened fire on the police bus in Srinagar. The attack on Monday coincided with the 20th anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack.

The incident took place on a highway near the Pantha Chowk, Zewan area of Srinagar.
Sources have reported that Rameez Ahmad, son of Mohammad Amin of Yachama Ganderbal succumbed to injuries on Tuesday morning. Besides Rameez, two more cops, Assistant Sub Inspector Ghulam Hassan of Top Neel Bharthand Ramban and Safique Ali (Sgct) of Mamakoti Mahore in Reasi district were killed in the attack on Monday evening. All of them were from the 9th battalion of JKAP.
This was a major attack on security since the dismissal of Kashmir’s special status in 2019 and the Pulwama attack in which 40 CRPF Jawans died in the car-bombing attack.
Two Militants Involved in the Attack are Neutralized
In a statement issued to media, the police spokesperson said that based on specific input regarding movement of terrorists in general area of Rangreth, surprise naka checking points were established, where, two suspected persons on noticing the police party fired indiscriminately upon them.
However, the fire was effectively retaliated, leading to a brief encounter. In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were neutralized on spot, he said.
As per the J&K Police, the two neutralized militants were involved in multiple cases of civil atrocities and killings. Weapons such as 02 AK rifles and other incriminating materials were recovered from the site of encounter.

Response from the Authorities
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other Politicians and activists have raised their concern regarding the unfortunate event. PM is currently looking up the details of the terror attack and has also expressed condolences for the families of the injured and deceased. Former chief Ministers of Kashmir, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have also shared concerns over the event.

Caution Against Attack on Security Forces
Multiple intelligence inputs issued last week cautioned against terrorist attacks on security forces in Kashmir, according to a report by News18.com, adding that a standard operating procedure has been shared with forces deployed in the Valley.
A SOP shared by the CRPF with the Security Forces in the valley last week, cautioned, “Security drills should be conducted and loopholes should be covered if any. QAT (Quick Action Team) to be kept ready to counter any attack on camps or troops,”.
