A BJP leader has stated that the Gujarat woman who is set to marry herself won’t be allowed to marry in temple as it is “against Hinduism”. The criticism came from BJP leader Sunita Shukla who stated that such marriages “will reduce population of Hindus”.

“I am against the choice of the venue. She will not be allowed to marry herself in any temple,” the BJP leader said. Earlier, Maharashtra Congress leader Milind Deora called the decision of Gujarat woman wanting to marry herself as “wokeness” that borders on insanity. “I have said it before — ‘wokeness’ borders on insanity. Let’s hope it stays far, far away from India,” the Congress leader had tweeted, attracting backlash from netizens

It all started when 24-year-old Vadodara resident Kshama Bindu announced that she is all set to marry herself, an act which she said was that of “self-acceptance”. The act of marrying oneself is called ‘sologamy’. The act in no way is legally binding, and one doesn’t need to divorce themselves if they want to marry someone in future.

Speaking to TOI, Kshama had said, “I never wanted to get married. But I did want to become a bride. So I decided to marry myself”. She had also claimed that she would go on a honeymoon to Goa following a marriage with herself.

Now, a woman in Vadodara, Gujarat, is taking the act of self-acceptance a few notches up. 24-year-old Kshama Bindu recently brewed a controversial storm after she announced that she would be marrying herself at a temple and will be going on a honeymoon as well.

BJP Leader weighs in on Matter

The move attracted a lot of attention from social media users, with some applauding the woman’s initiative while others slamming it. Recently, BJP leader Sunita Shukla shared her opinions and claimed that Kshama will not be allowed to marry at a temple as her decision is “against Hinduism”.

“Will reduce Hindu population”

Sharing her views on sologamy, the act of marrying oneself, the BJP leader said, “I’m against the choice of venue, she’ll not be allowed to marry herself in any temple. Such marriages are against Hinduism. This will reduce the population of Hindus. If anything goes against religion then no law will prevail.”

BJP Leader Calls Gujarat Woman “Mentally Ill”

According to an India Today report, the BJP leader labelled Bindu as “mentally ill”, and added that nowhere in Hindu culture is it mentioned that a boy can marry another boy or likewise in the case of a woman.

Who is Kshama Bindu?

Kshama Bindu, a private firm employee garnered buzz after she announced that she will be marrying herself and committing to herself instead of a man or a woman. A sociology graduate, she claimed that she will dress up in bridal attire and will adorn the traditional ‘sindoor’ in her marriage with herself. She also claimed that she wrote five vows for herself.

A Hindustan Times report quoted Bindu saying, “I think women marrying themselves might seem incredibly threatening because it looks like we are saying men are irrelevant, but we are actually just saying that we matter.”

“’Wokeness’ Borders on Insanity”: Congress Leader

Following the announcement, Congress leader Milind Deora took to Twitter and wrote – “I have said it before — ‘wokeness’ borders on insanity. Let’s hope it stays far, far away from India.”
